Theatre should be inspiring, but it should be for everybody. Shakespeare should be for everybody. It’s a shame this production ruined Shakespeare for you, because it seems as if the concept became more important than the text and the audience’s comfort. Many Shakespearean directors try incredibly hard to make the text come alive for people who don’t normally like it, because they care passionately. This just seemed like gimmickry for gimmickry’s sake, and it’s sadly killed a potential customer.
this popped up in my feed but I actually love this video - because this seems to happen to us all the time...! we had this the other week, had in our heads we really wanted a Sunday roast... couldn't find one for love nor money. better luck next time...!
@@GeoffBuysCars yay glad someone liked it🤣🤣 thats the thing, reality isnt perfect, and to the people disappointed in this video - imagine how disappointed we felt🤣🤣 we should petition for Sunday (evening) roasts to be more available!! Hope you get yours soon🥰
@@brendanweaver6999 yeah its certainly not cheap any more! Im going to test doing a shop at waitrose (because a lot of the Lidl food has been gross) and see what the difference is!
Don't worry about putting on weight. We all put on a bit of weight as we get older. I was 11st at Uni with size 10 feet. I am now 15.5 stone with UK size 15 feet. I am 6'4.

It means they had a great opening weekend. They sold out. Its always annoying when your stock runs out, but better than having a slow day. Thry just didnt expect the turn out they got it seems. Given its their first few weeks, and forst bank hol, its understandable they underestimated the demand. Ive ownee a few pubs sold my final one coming on teo years now. Only a brave person would bother opening a pub in this day. I wish him well, but will be amazed if its still open in 2 years time.
@@StephenButlerOne They actually had water issues, so they had to shut early! If I’m honest I think demand was also probably lower than they expected!! But yes running a pub is not for the weak!
@@victoriaevangelineee that's a shame, for them and you, but shit happens sometimes and you have to close. Usually it will take a murder to close a pub. Even then I'd first try and just rope the area off lol.
Yeah...there may have been a world where Jamie Lloyd could have applied his aesthetic and directing style onto Shakespeare and it could have worked out, but this was a step (or 5) too far. He has a thing about cameras and using film in the theatre, but like you said, you're coming to see theatre, not a movie. The thing about Shakespeare is that you could just read it, but to really understand it, you need to see it up on its feet. With this it seems like Jamie Lloyd was more interested in stripping things away, which made it really no different than just reading it in a classroom. And the cameras...dear lord, there was no need for them, they just got in the way, throw them out!
@@danielhynes5511 hehehe I worked at Waitrose for 4 years from 17 to 21 so basically grew up there, and just loved it. Got spoilt by the partner discounts and yellow tickeys. When I left I had a period of time where I shopped at Aldi ( about two years) but I’ve gone back to Waitrose miss the food quality so much and I won’t lie with prices going up so much the gap in prices is a lot smaller🤣🤣
agreed. JL should be careful going forward - not everyone will let this pass considering the hoopla around the ticket scarcity....casting Tom H didn't save this. This reminded me of something fringey you'd see in Brooklyn that worried more about the style and message they are adding rather than letting the underlying play breathe (this last bit is exactly what JL said he's trying to do in the program - it says "he's getting out of the way of the play itself".....did he do that here? did he?). This all being said, he elevated Sunset so giving him leeway. Also his style is 101% perfect for his upcoming Godot....so good on him.
So I studied Romeo and Juliet HEAVILY at university and I can tell you right now they cut out very key contextual scenes, making it difficult to understand in places for my friends who didn't know the text as well. Romeo and Juliet is designed to be a comedic tragedy, but that's due to the lighter fluffy elements, which can be aided by the scenery. However, it did not working in this context because they stripped all the light and fluffiness from it with the lighting and set design. Romeo and Juliet is FULL of jokes, if done properly. I think this production was very flat. I get what they were trying to do but they missed the bar massively
@@victoriaevangelineee The 1996 film I thought did a great job with Benvolio and Mercutio who a lot of the comedic relief falls on, but maybe its too 90s for modern audiences. The nurse too, not that serious. Miriam Margolyes is the nurse in the film, you might know her as Professor Sprout from Harry Potter, really wonderful performances in the film all around. .
Going ultra-minimalist with Shakespeare (in the original prose) was a mistake. It was almost inevitable that audiences would be bored and confused, especially if the actors are also emoting minimally.
@@victoriaevangelineee I hope, at some point, you'll give Shakespeare another chance: in his time, he was a playwright working for cash and audiences, just like playwrights do now. He wasn't writing to be studied and worshipped. The language is rich and archaic for us, but it's still English, and the stories are strong. I think a cool re-introduction to Shakespeare might be the Mel Gibson "Hamlet", which pares things down kind of neatly, and gives us a nice narrative drive, understands the humor in the play, and, with it being Mel Gibson and all, includes a nice amount of action.
I have a lot of books on my tbr!!! I re-read favourites but the majority of books i will read once and pass on or take to the charity shop. Its has to be an absolute favourite for me to keep and re-read x
As you mentioned you buy mostly books and clothes at boot sales, im just wondering what your favourite genre of book is? And what are you currently reading? X
@@Clarabella265 yes! Sometimes I get the odd game but a book is my go to! I LOVE me a bit of fantasy! I’m currently reading A Court Of Thorns And Roses ( was influenced by booktok) the first time ive liked a booktok recommendation! But I like a crime thriller, dystopian (my fave genre)🤗
