Andre Korsakov was a well hidden Soviet musician . His text book bow arm is a joy to see even if the recording sound is not so good . These close up hand films cannot teach us much at the speed they play .These days I am drifting away from Oistrakh towards Kogan .

To me, the first part (Paganini Caprice #24) is flying staccato, and the second part (Hora Staccato) is upbow staccato.

Heifetz suggestion for slur staccato -- practice single and double staccato when you practice arpeggios. " I practiced like a devil" -- J Heifetz

I would not say, Heifetz has "bel canto", his tone is very thin in volume in comparison to the singers tone!

Oistrakh above the rest
@sherrillshaffer579
@sherrillshaffer579 Месяц назад
Oistrakh used all steel strings, while Heifetz used gut on the lower three strings (bare gut on the A, wrapped gut on G and D). This accounts for a significant amount of the difference in sound. Also, it's likely that different microphones were used on the two recordings. The bow also affects the sound, but it was said that both Oistrakh and Heifetz often used German bows, so there may be little difference there.

Both are the greatest violinists of all time, but the greats of the violin, Oistrakh believed that Heifetz was in a special position.
