Is he basically playing a version of the Joker rather than Two-Face? Yes. And yet I can’t really get mad because Tommy Lee Jones chewing the scenery is just so much fun!
The irony is, Tommy Lee Jones could have been a really good Two-Face if he played it like any other role, but I'm guessing the directing/tone of the movie didn't allow for it.
You can't make both villains like the Joker what they can't make a serious two-face because that will ruin the tone of the movie for kids. Penguin was crazy but a serious two face would be cool if Tommy Lee Jones actually got to play that role.
Let this sink in: If Jim carrey wasn't in this movie, we probably would've gotten a serious representation of the character. It of course wouldn't be able to top this legendary performance.
at one point I read an article saying that the reason why Tommy Lee Jones was this goofy was because he and Jim Carrey hated each other and he thought the Jim is gonna steel the movie spotlight from him so Tommy decided to make himself so goofy and active so he can be everyone's favorite
Yes, I agree. Two-Face was always my favourite Batman villain and I remember being so excited when I found out that he was appearing in Batman Forever. I think I was about 12 years old when the film was released and went to see it with my sister during the summer holidays. No amount of cinema popcorn could mask the bitter taste that TLJ's oafish portrayal left in my mouth. I was quite literally crestfallen. There was nothing remotely scary about the villains in this film. Give me Two-Face from the animated series any day!
@@hetaera3418Like Joker (played by Phoenix)he deserves his own movie and origin story. And an actor that fits the part. Jones simply wasn't born to play him
@@hetaera3418 I felt the exact same way. When I heard that Jones was going to play Two Face I thought he would do the character justice. But when he acted so corny in the movie it was really disappointing.
Two Face. A man who used to be Gothams white knight and was to be married to a very beautiful woman life turned upside down due to his second personality and explosion that fucked up his face destroying his career and loses his bride to be mentally scarring him for life. He certainly got over that quite well didn't he?
Tommy Lee Jones did a great job in Batman Forever. His version of portraying Two-Face is a sadistic sense of humour and a sadistic killer instinct of wanting Batman dead.
