I just bought a faulty mds-je500 with the exact same error, I tried cleaning the lens and nothing changed. What I ended up doing was replacing the electrolytic capacitors on the mechanism board. There should be six 100uF 6.3V and two 10V 10uF surface mount capacitors, I used normal capacitors by soldering the legs to the pads as surface mount capacitors suck and are nothing but trouble, works flawlessly now! I've searched everywhere online and no one came up with a solution, but I did read a comment somewhere that they replaced the mechanism board and it fixed it so that gave a clue that it's most likely bad capacitors, and it was.
