Zola, if you are performing this at the Grand junction 24th Sep '24 have them dim the lights. The less distraction by other senses the better, this is a deep listening work of art that would work best in an ambient dark place devoid of others and odours but, failing that dim the lights. Thanx btw thoroughly enjoyed it.
Dears, some part of a lesson in history... Originally this comes from Transcarpathia (Zakarpattia) region from the XIX. century, so from the territory of then Hungarian Kingdom where not a single Ukrainian lived at that time, but mostly Hungarians and Rusyns. Also until Trianon Treaty the whole Tisza run on Hungarian territory. And Kacsa is rather a word with Hungarian origin, as it sound too weird in Ukrainian. But a nice cover of that song... And yes, there will be manies here with vulgar or cynical statements or jokes but in fact, no one cried in the so called modern world in 1920 when Hungarian Kingdom was dismembered after more than 1000 years of history.......................
Yes, good idea to write a paragraph to discredit Ukraine under the most poignant funerary song in Ukrainian culture today. Those reading: this is a Lemko folk song reworked by a Ukrainian writer from the Transcarpathian region, Vasyl Grendzha-Donsky in the 1940s.
This song may have something in common with Hungarian culture, but actually it is very typical Ukrainian "soldier's" song. It is about relationship between son and mother and belief that the quarrel between them, the mother's curse, her refusal to pray and wait will definitely lead to death for soldier on a battlefield. There are many similar Ukrainian songs.
