Thank you Doug Padilla. Their was a time when running fast and winning was so important and now it does not seem so important after all. Loving my neighbor and loving God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is important now. I miss running though.
Hard to believe to experienced professionals like liquori and shorter could misjudge the time per lap. I could tell he wasn't going get the record but they thought he was going beat it by 6 seconds.
We never saw the limit of Ovett's ability due to injury. To my mind he was the most versatile British runner ever. A sprinter who could keep up middle distance pace.
Feel badly for Scott. A great runner in his own right, Steve had the misfortune of running against four of the greatest middle distance runners in history: Coe, Ovett, Cram(outdoors) and Coughlin(indoors). For my money nobody in history beats Coe on this day. At his best and healthy Coe was unbeatable at 1500m/mile.
Cram was not in shape to win this (had an awful injured season) but he should have made it harder for Coe by running to his strengths and going long and early. Cram was simply the best ever at the gradual application of punishing pace in the last lap but here he waited for Coe to kick - which was always a no contest.
The person who put this video up was his team mate and Henry Marsh was a legend for BYU so his followers want to see all his races because they hear about his race tactic of coming from behind. He held the BYU record a long time.
From the 1st round to the 2nd round, they changed the barriers for some unknown reason. In the first round, they resembled the ones in the 1984 olympics, but in the 2nd round and the final, they changed them to what looked a more sturdier design.
Coe is one of my all time favorite runners. Especially at this distance. I think he started his push a bit too late in this race. My favorite was Sydney Maree. I had some of my best training runs in my Maree Reeboks. 1500 and 5000 are my favorite distances to watch while the 10k and longer are my favorites to run.
