Sinking ship, how long can you hold still? Your illness spills against my face Sinking ship, how long can you hold still? Oh, can’t you feel the coming waves A perfect Sunday portrait of my mother painting horses all alone Of lovers and of leavers still believing they are free to come back home Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Sinking ship, how long can you hold still? Your illness is all that you are A portrait of my father as a baby sleeping underneath the stars A small pill of forgiveness I am giving to myself, it’s what I need A small gift of fulfilment I am hoping you will open and receive Ooh Ooh Ooh Oo-ooh Sinking ship, how long can you hold still? Your illness fills this empty room A portrait of your lover softly drowning in the warm waters of June A perfect Sunday portrait of my mother sending signals through the drum A portrait of my sadness finding shelter in the safety of my home Ooh Ooh Ooh Oo-ooh
When I want something on spotify, I just download it to my phone and use the import local files feature, then hit download after putting in a playlist. You can only play it on your phone or computer though and you have to download them separately
I am the drummer, now living in New Zealand. My brother Phillip Cullingford and Steve Blackledge, who went to technical college together founded the band. Andrea and Sue plus myself Andy made up the 5 piece. I was 15 when asked to join the band. We were playing in local pubs and venues. At the time I was living in Rimmington, near Burnley. Within 7 months of joining we recorded this single - and the flip side in Leeds. Our biggest gig was supporting "the Beat" at Blackburn town hall. There was no Indie scene back then we were called - ska / rock / pop. Iggy Pops passenger and green onions - booker T and the mg's were the first songs I learned to play with the band. On the back of the single - side B is a photo of me dressed up in drag. We went out one night in Birmingham where we moved to be closer to the happening music scene. Don't know where the video came from because we never made a vid. Somebodies making money from the single and I never got a cent. That's the music industry for you. I now have a diploma in music, teaching drumkit, percussion, guitar and vocals. Blessings
WOW! What serendipity. A friend and I were just chatting on Facebook about a band I used to be in which supported The Au Pairs a few times because we (briefly) shared the same record company. So I searched it on YT and here it is, our single. Again, wow. I played drunk trombone - I was young and it was a long recording session don't hate me - plus I directed the backing vocals. Haven't heard it for probably 30 years. Sadly the lyrics are all too current right now. Brilliant video mate, thanks!
