Love this voice leading trick. It's one of my go toos. What I LOVE, it sounds good in so many genres. Check out "everything reminds me of her" by elliot smith. Super depressing, indie singer song writer type music, he busts it out to such great effect.
I like using Phrygian with a Minor Third AND Major Third too. 8 Notes allowed. Try this: III, iii, ii, I. (III, III, III, III, iii, iii, iii, iii, ii, ii, ii, ii, I, I, I, I) loop Also, Start at the Top and Slur all the way down. & Slur all the way resolving up.
Barry called it playing the 6th on the 5th. For that AbMaj chord the 5th (of Ab) would be Eb. So Eb6 and it’s related diminshed chord would be where you can draw some movements from. So on any major chord (Ab in this case) you can use the 6th diminshed scale of chords built on the 5th ( Eb6 and F dim) or on the 1 (Ab6 and Bbdim). Love what you doing. Keep it up.
Hi, someone school me as to what Dope means in music. Evidently it is an acronym for something. I looked for it on a school website and word was blocked? Thanks...
Thanks Doc, you 'killed it". Hey, you knocked it out of the park! In basketball language 3 pointers all over the place. Even though I've been at this awhile your explanation added some layers to my musical vocabulary. Bless you, you are a treasure. Oh, I had to watch the video a number of times, it's all good.🎹
If you know one key you know three. A little theory goes a long way. Circle of fifths and fourths. G is a fifth of C. F is a fourth of C. Learning the circle of fourths helped me also practicing songs in their original key without transposing. Hymns too.
You provide a refreshing and interesting take on this. I'm a guitar player trying to use your ideas on guitar. So, you are playing in the key of C. You "borrow" the E7b9/G# 3 chord and use its R, 3rd, 4th 5th, b7 then add the b9 and b6 correct? This is the E phrygian dominant scale correct? You resolve this to the 6 chord A minor correct? Does this only work well when resolving to a minor chord or can you still get back to C major?
Welcome back, Rob. Glad you started creating video tutorials again. I hope that you will record something new about reharmonization techniques in jazz and gospel piano. God bless you.
@@RobPSound Great if that's the case. Because on RU-vid, the only more detailed lessons I found on reharmonization in gospel music were yours. Therefore, I will be grateful if you will teach more on this topic. Chord substitutions and passing chords are also interesting, and I think not only for me. God bless you, Rob.
RobPSound, I almost have that Gospel-Blues drive. You know the tritons, five and six key in the left hand and the the octive in the right hand Fanstitic. Great Lesson!!!!!
