Brock, Nice control and smoothness out of the back! I did see that you stopped turning the right foot ahead of the hip which causes you to lose torque and pull. Work a lot of wheel turn throws early on in the season. Keep bringing your left foot on around in the block and you will be able to hold it better at the end. You closed off your hips because of your left foot not getting into the proper heel toe relationship in the power position.

Jesse, keep turning your right foot and create separation between the hip and discus which creates the torque to throw far. You stop the right foot turn early so you are losing a lot of pull on the delivery because the discus gets ahead of the hip.

Chelsea, Nice smooth and controlled out of the back! What I did notice is that you lead with your knee instead of your toe to the center. Work on a wide right leg around a cone off of the left foot and get your right toe out in front as you jump. Let the lower body develop the throw before reversing your feet and jumping into it, you lose some torque on the discus by delivering to early, that is why it goes down the right sector. Be patient as the right foot turns and the hip creates separation from the discus, when the hips are facing the middle of the sector, THEN drive the discus out.

Brookelyn, Nice athletic jump to center and you kept it smooth out of the back. What I see on this throw is that you need to keep the right foot turning ahead of the hip/discus. You loose torque at the end of the throw by not keeping that separation. Work a lot on the wheel turn throws early in the season trying to feel a big stretch created by keeping the right foot turning ahead of the hip. Let the lower body do its work first, then throw the discus!

Austin, Keep your head and chest up as you jump to the center, keep looking for that focal point out in the sector. Also, keep that right foot turning hard to build torque and speed on the discus. You kept your heel up but stopped turning the foot ahead of the discus. Work on the wheel turn throws to help with this.

Austin, Besides what the other coaches said, I noticed that you let you foot collapse and put your heel on the ground therefore, have to pick it back up to turn. Do a lot of wheel turn throws early on to get better at keeping that heel up and the foot turning ahead of the hip and discus!

Dakota, Out of the back of the circle, don't throw your right arm so hard, keep it turning with the right knee as you get your weight shifted to the right leg for the jump to center. Also, on the finish, keep that left foot turning HARD ahead of the hip/discus. You stop the turn on this throw which doesn't let you drive the hip into it first. Nice jump to center and pull on the discus. Do a lot of wheel turn throws early on this season in practice and keep it slow out of the back, trying for a better power position.

Emily, Really nice foot turn and finish on this throw. Keep long levers as you get out of the back of the circle, you shorten your left arm a lot and it doesn't ever really help you through the block at the end. Keep the left arm long and turning with the left knee so you don't lead with the head and chest too much to the middle (forward lean). This will help you finish the throw even faster.

Greyson, You have a pretty good foot turn and finish on this throw, what I see that you need to work on most is getting out of the back of the circle better. Keep a long arm with the discus way back behind your hip as you jump to the middle. Also find a focal point to look for when you jump, which will keep your head and chest up going to the middle. Try practicing some of the modified South African turns to help make this easier.

Haley, Very nice start and jump out of the back of the circle. I think you should do a lot of turning drills and wheel turn throws to keep that right heel off the ground and the foot turning as you throw the discus. Stopping the right foot turn and letting the heel down flat is what stops you from making an excellent throw here.

i dont know where you started this throw, but the power position looks fine, maybe have a lower rear focal point and a tiny bit of right knee bend. KEEP TURNING THE RIGHT FOOT it does turn but not with the violent rotation needed to bring your hip really into the throw. you are nice and tall, and have good separation between the arms and body. good extension onto the toes upon release. you really get after it on the delivery. get your movement across the ring down pat and good things will happen to you.

Zach, Start out even a little slower out of the back for a while as you learn to set the left hip and get more weight onto the left foot along with a wide right so that you can get a JUMP to the middle and into the power position. I like your finish and smoothness of the throw overall, so if you can set yourself up better in the power position the discus will really fly for you!

Weston, Work a lot on wheel turns to get that right foot turning faster ahead of the hips in the power position. You don't get the full effect of your block when the right foot stops turning as you deliver the discus. You will feel a bigger stretch as the torque increases by creating more separation between the hip and discus, but this can only happen if the right foot is turning ahead of the hip first!

Payton, You have good control out of the back! What I noticed the most is that you stop the right foot turn at the finish. Not keeping the foot turning ahead of the discus causes you to lose torque and speed on the release. Also, you need to drive the hips and abs up and out to create that "backward C" position which gets you the height of release you want and adds power to the throw.

Nate, Nice jump to the center! Keep the discus back behind the hip and you will have more pull at the end to make farther throws! Do some drills like figure 8's with the discus to get more comfortable with the feel that it won't fall out of your hand as you wind and jump to the middle. Keep the right foot turning hard. Lots of wheel turn throws will help you with that!

Kyle, Keep your right foot turning when it hits the middle, the stopping of the foot rotation lets the discus get in front of the hip which causes you to lose a lot of pull at the end. Relax and let the throw develop with the lower body. Remember everything starts from the ground up, make the lower body do it's work first, then throw the discus!

Jesse, Along with what the other coaches mentioned, I see a need on this throw to keep the right foot turning faster ahead of the hip/discus to maximize torque and speed on the release. Try driving your hips/abs out and up with a big chest too. Keep up the smooth and controlled speed out of the back and you will hit the right positions with more reps.

Jaylen, Keep the left arm and left knee turning together out of the back, this will prevent the discus from coming in front of the hip to the middle. Also, keep the right foot turning hard to keep the hips ahead of the discus for maximum torque and velocity. I really like how smooth and controlled you are throughout the throw, this will really help you hit the right positions with more reps.

Drew, I would like to see the right foot continue turning to drive the right side against the block clear through the delivery. Try to get the right hip pointed out to the middle of the sector ahead of the discus. You are getting pretty smooth with your form to the power position, it will really help you this season!

Cullen, What I would like to see on this throw is to get your left foot down quicker at the front. a slow left will cause the block effect to weaken because of the loss of torque. Nice early season form out of the back!

ok Cullen just like we talked at the meet, you are in a hurry turning to the back when hitting center instead of seeing the discus throw the high frontal focal point. patience in hitting the 3-9 oclock position is needed here. .a fraction of a second slow getting off the left with a harder left foot push to the front is gonna help too. look where your discus is when the left touches front. not enough torque. increase that by 75-90 degrees and the discus will ZIP outta your hand

a couple things...bent right leg sweep. ooops i mean left... extend the sweep leg foot in front of the knee knee in front of the hip. a more agressive left foot turning throughout the throw.....relax the right arm at the beginning. bend it so it doesnt start the sweep turn. let your feet start your turn not the upper body. fix these things and you will see much longer throws....guaranteed!

#1 thing i see is the bent right sweep leg. extend it foot in front of the knee, knee in front of the hip. fix that and you get a better block at the end with more rotational torque saved. better block = farther throw

dont cradle the discus! extend the relaxed throwing arm and keep the discus behind your right butt cheek. as your right leg is passing up the left foot during the sweep, now begin looking at your frontal high focal point. the discus should be at the same level as your high focal point when your right foot touches center and begins to turn. keeping the right foot turning and extending up will help stop the rt foot from leaving the ground at the throw

good start to the world of throwing. extend the right sweeping leg and land in the 3and 9oclock position with the right foot. turning all the way in the air so the right foot points to the beginning loses you too much torque. you also should have the discus up to your frontal high point too low here.. lots of footwork drill and lots of throws! you have a good start

start your sweep leg just as soon as your left foot begins its turn!. relax the left arm so it doesnt pull you into the turn.. get airborne sooner with the left foot and get it to the front. u will add 10 ft or more when this happens RELAX the left arm, it shouldnt make the turn.

from the beginning to the point where the right leg is to touch is where it needs fixed.on the wind up, ur body[is centered! should be more left] mass should shift more to over your left foot. 80% body on the left 10-20% on the right. sweep leg is slow to go into action. start it at same time as initial left foot turn. this slow sweep leg then makes you LEAN heavily to the 3oclock position, causing the over rotation at center. you try and save the throw,. this seems to be the recurring problem so lets work on a faster start to the sweep and more weight over the left. small tweaks make a 150 thrower to a 170 fter

extend the right leg when sweeping to center, not a bent knee. arm positions are good at that point, but at the power position you need to square around with the chest and not try to throw it around your chest. follow thru. sweep a long leg to center allows you more torque into the throw. extend the right leg and get off the left pivot foot at the initial turn quicker and the power position improves

bent right leg when sweeping to center .....foot in front of knee knee in front of hip....i dont know how it happened but you hit the 3 and 9oclock positions good, but because of the bent leg, the body mass was moved to the front of the ring too soon, and you was off balance at the end. like most young throwers, you are starting everything with the left arm. RELAX the left and keep it in front of you limp wrist and watch the thumbnail and keep the discus behind your hip. when you freeze frame the spot where your right leg is about to touch down at center, the left arm is completely behind you and the discus is in front of you> should be the other way around! FIX THE BEGINNING

RELAX it looks like you are as tense as a banjo string. tenseness does not help flexibilty. hold your left arm back from yanking yourself into center. allow the legs to get you where you want to go. ideally the upper body should lag behind the legs, called the X position by some coaches.. creates and holds much more torque.. i would also suggest that you try the MOON the SECTOR by sticking the butt out towards the tape puller to put more downforce onto the left foot to begin your pivot and seep. LEFT BIG TOE starts the sweep not the upper body... the unbalanced feeling is simply from starting everything with the upper body

i would suggest more of a BOW LEGGED stance as you shift over to the left foot at the beginning, with the knees pointing outwards. this lets you put more weight upon the left foot to pivot on. also allow your eyes to follow the left side of the body as you sweep, kinda holding the LOW FOCAL POINT too long.BENDING your right leg instead of a long right causes the over-rotation. lead with the foot in front of the knee, the knee in front of the hip. and yes get off that left foot faster #1 to fix....long right leg sweeping

when u have turned 90 degrees from the beginning stop the video and look at the position of your left arm. it is leading the throw, keep it relaxed and in front of you and let your feet do the work the throw only gets better if you forget about the arms until the power position..

i see a tiny bit of leaning to center with the upper body at the start. and the hips slightly tucked under. MOON the sector and this puts more force onto the left foot. Relax the left arm at the sweep, looks a little tense. take it easy at the beginning and then accelerate at center. at your stage of technique tweaking a few things will add that 10 feet to a PR, you are very close.

pretty solid actually. i did see a little bit of leaning back towards the center as you began your leg sweep. MOONING THE TAPE PEOPLE. keep your shoulders where they are, extend your butt back a bit. this puts you on your toes better and now you can drive that left big toe into the pivot., instead of being rather flat footed at this point. the rest will improve after that "lean" is corrected

Your form has gotten rather good over the past few years. The biggest thing that I notice is that you lean into center with your shoulders so that you feel like you're keeping your discus back. Instead of doing it this way, lead with your hips, leaving your shoulders back. It will give you that same feeling of separation, and will create torque at the front of the ring.
