The Chamber is a source for leveling up your Universus gameplay. In addition to covering decks and new sets, I talk a lot about strategy or state of the game. If you''re a newer player looking to level up your Universus gameplay, then you should enter The Chamber. You won't regret it.
this was a huge help thanks. if you're going to do a part 2 i think the biggest thing i would like to know would be the following what dose stun do what are the symbols on the bottom of the card what are the keywords like throw and kick do?
@TheChamberMHA I had questions about how King Ghidoras life attributes. Like if I did 12 damage to it. Does it only lose a counter or does the 2 life damage carry over? Or Jean from from AOT, when you trigger his enhance about changing zones and adding +2 speed. TIA.
@ronthebeast the excess damage on Ghidorah is lost. In theory he’s 30 health, but the fact he has a speed bump at 20 and 10 means you usually have to do way, way more than 30. Jeans is just an enhance so you could do it during any enhance step, assuming you have the momentum to pay for the ability.
Was confused with one of the my hero cards. The cards name is late riser, which is a foundation. It has a response: after this card is discarded from your hand during the enhance step, this attack gets +1 or -2 speed. Is this ability something that the person holding it in hand would use or is it a response to your opponent making you discard cards from your hand. Or is it something completely different.
That card makes a little bit more sense in conjunction with Eraser Head 1. His primary gimmick was that he could discard a card from his hand to pick up an action called ERASE! from his discard pile, and then give the attack +/-2 speed. He could discard early riser and get a total of either +3 or -4 instead. He also had a lot of combo attacks, so it was useful for him in his stage too.
Also, still new to Universus but I’ve gotten a chance to look at a lot of the cards since posting my original question. I’ve have started to see that trend of cards abilities for a character play off each other quite well. Thinking about putting an Eraser head deck together.
6:22 hhmm but the Colossus titan doesnt transforms into another superior form or anything. Those flip cards would be better stick to Human turning into titans or some other ideas of actual transformation/change. Like Annie when became a cacoon or when a Wall gets broken or when Mikasa had that “awaken” moment with the knife and all when she was a kid. Anyway, still wondering how this two sided cards will work inside the deck.
So some cards have the Shift keyword, which means that at the end of your turn when you clear your card pool you flip them over instead of putting them in your discard. In Colossus Titan Attacks case, you play the card as an attack, then at the end of your turn it flips and becomes a backup.
All I can do is hope that uvs brings webcam events back. We live so far away from everything. I'm trying to get some local dudes on board but they just don't care about it since union arena is dropping. They're stuck in that echo chambering phase, so that sucks. But, my wife and I are still super excited to play, just sucks that we may never get to play in person events 🤷♂️
Definitely excited to get our sleeved blister in, probably will get a box too now lol. I mean Attack on Titan and MHA are like 2 of the main reasons, we are all in lol. But godzilla, yu yu, and street fighter too lol. Theres so much
Symbols, do they limit your card pool to build the deck? Also, since there are different IPs in this game, can you have a mix deck? Having Godzilla cards in a AOT deck?
Symbols are a deckbuikding limitation, but it’s a little complicated with AOT. Setting AOT aside, there are 12 Symbols. Every card (for the most part), has 3 of those Symbols. When you build your deck, you select one Symbol on your character and you can play any card that has that Symbol on it, even if it’s from a different IP. AOT Symbols work differently. Each character only has two Symbols, and all of the other cards only have a single Symbol. However, AOT Symbols are Attuned, which means they supersede your decks Symbol choice. They only care if your character has that Symbol on it. For example, if I’m playing Spike, Bounty Hunter, he has the Earth, Life, and Water Symbols. If I play him on Earth, I can use any card that has the Earth Symbol on it. I can also play any Life card from AOT, as those cards are attuned and supersede my deck building choice. I would be able to use Water attuned cards too, but there’s no Water attuned cards in AOT. If those come out in a future set, then I can use them too.
Hey bro, next thing I was about to ask you was “Is there any fb group like in DBSCG that I could join to get more into the game?” Now I am not sure, lol. Anyway, if there is one, let me know the link and see it by myself.
I think I’m getting the rules, gotta be honest with you, I feel a little overwhelmed with all of the new concepts hahahaha. But coming from MASTERS has prepared my brain to deal with complex rules. Thanks for the lesson, hope to watch some gameplays even get some games with you recorded one day.
UniVersus has a little bit more going on than a lot of other card games. My advice would be start by understanding how playing cards and making checks works first. Then work on understanding how attacks work, then start adding other details.
Man, I’m about to watch the whole show for the 5th time hahahaha. I thought I wanted to play Levi, but in fact Erwin was my favorite character from the show. I’m so ready to play this game, even if I’m the only one in my country playing it. Shinzo wo sasageyo!
Gotta confess my sins. Long story short, I never had any interest in AOT. Started watching it, and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve only seen the first season, gonna start season 2 soon.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, I honeslty cant think straight since this morning when I found out this game existed. The trailer looks so dope, the cards, I’m trying to understand the rules but I’m so hyped I dont catch a thing lmao. I need to breath and rewatch, thank you for referencing DBSCG it helped a lot. Just a question, some cards I saw didnt have the check number in the bottom right corner (I think the Colossus titan). Also Reiner character (if he was a character card) didnt have a shield icon on the top right corner. Maybe I am mistaken just telling you what I saw.
AOT has a lot of system changes to make learning easier. One of the tiny ones is that character cards don’t have a lot of the same values that other cards do. It’s kinda like how Leaders don’t have an Energy Cost. Historically you could put characters into your deck, but there was almost no good reason to do that. They’re moving away from that for new players.
I would greatly appreciate more demos how to play for new players and how I can find places to play or will I need to go on the computer and play online?
A lot of people play online through Tabletop Simulator. As far as in play goes, your best bet will be the store locator. play.uvsgames.com/stores/search What subject or subjects would you like to see covered regarding how to play?
I just have lots of questions about the details of things do action cards stay on the card pool until the end of the turn or do they go to discard after use, how many enhances can you use on a card per play, I guess just the obscure things that isn't covered in basic tutorials. Maybe a part 2 to your part one video going more in depth on some things. I have the godzilla challenger decks if that helps give you context to what keywords, lingo etc I am referring to.
Baseline, Action cards will stay in your pool until end of turn. However, many actions state that they remove themselves from the game when played as a cost, so you’ll have to read the action to make sure. Assuming the card doesn’t say otherwise, you can use any enhance from your stage once per attack (including your character). I hope this helps!
So i had a question about Mirio enhances from the starter decks can he use his enhance to change his attack from high to low or vice versa after the block is played or can enhances only be played during the enhance step
Good question! It depends on what format you’re playing. If you’re new to the game you’re most likely playing Standard or Draft, in which case no they cannot. In Retro format however, Turn 1 attacks are okay!
Just opened mine tonight I hope it is a game I can start and keep playing with just these two decks. Please post more tutorials on this game and how to play properly cause your first video was helpful.
Thank you for your kind words. The good news is that both decks are genuinely pretty good out of the box, so you’ll be ready to hit the ground running. Which character are you most excited for?
I just found put about this game yesterday with the Godzilla set and ordered the 2 starters. This video was very very helpful!! I'll be referring back once they come in the mail 😁
Just the mechanics like do I committ to use the enhance? Or does form committ your card and also what's is ranged slam and throw and EX or kick and stun
Dual faced character cards are cool and I’m about it. Shift attacks that will need to be Re flipped over in between games or get a game loss is super lame and really will effect game time (already pressed for time with hour rounds for a 2 out of 3). Don’t love backups, but that’s ok, I can just not play them and be fine. Also hoping for to see some enhances on any attacks this set.
Magic and FAB do a lot of transforming cards you need to flip in sleeves. Not saying no one has ever gotten penalties for forgetting to de-flip but I've mostly gotten used to it.
I hope the penalties are pretty small for that. Personally, I typically don’t even see an issue with it since you can just flip the card back when you play it, but rules are rules. I don’t think we’ll be seeing too many enhances on attacks this set outside of things like Stun, but who knows?
Well said my dude. We are awesome at teaching people who are interested, setting people up for play success, and encouraging others to keep playing. That isn’t enough to be the best. The community certainly goes toxic super quick in the socials when a change is not well received. This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t express opinions or have constructive criticism as they certainly have made many mistakes since the my hero reboot, but we can’t try to burn it all down every time we disagree. I can agree that they have listened on multiple occasions and do show they care about what the community thinks. Most important takeaways for us: stop being such dicks when we don’t like something. Remain constructive, not destructive. Most important takeaway for UVS: we value communication, and this is something we continue to need improvement on
Couldn’t have worded it better myself. I want to hone in on the last thing you said. I can confirm from my time at the summit that UVS Games has been trying to fix areas piece meal. They started with art, then they focused on game play and organized play. Next focuses are on onboarding and marketing/communication. They frequently made the analogy of “building muscles”. Some of these muscles are still building. I personally think the summit was great (compared to the goods that a lot of other creators have said) because they’ve said they want to improve on this front. While ideally this muscle would have already been built, they have to make priorities and something has to come last. For them, it was marketing. While it’s a little disappointing to see that marketing was the thing to come last (part of why I think other creators understandably called it only good, not great), this is such a good first step. Plus, we’ve seen what some of these honed muscles look like, so I’m more than willing to give them space and let them cook.
Great video, "the best community in gaming" is probably true when you get to an in person event. Its the great lie when it comes to the online community. The discord is toxic. The FB groups are toxic. Entitlement is the keyword you mentioned. I think its a huge problem in this community because people feel so attached to the game because they stuck with it through so many bad years. Im honestly surprised UVS hasnt taken the Valve approach to communication and just shut it down completely.
I think this really hits the nail on the head. In person people are great, online it’s super rough at times. People will typically start in online spaces, and that’s the issue. And I get it, some of these people have been at this for most of their adult lives. It’s understandable they would feel emotional. Just have to pull it in a bit. Anywho, thanks for your thoughts!
Thank you for your thoughts! I am only recently starting to play universus, and the negative responses have definitely given me pause. The last card game I played (LOR) had its competitive scene gutted, and when I see so much negativity here it makes me worried uvs will end up the same way. The videos from everyone at the creator summit are really well made and are fueling a lot of positivity and hopefully will start pushing us in the right direction.
To be honest, I’ve let community negativity give me pause on a lot of issues too, and that’s something I personally need to work on. I totally get it though. The creators I met with were all incredible and passionate individuals. It’s up to us to set the standard moving forwards.
I will be saying this in my own content, but with the Mixed formats and printing errors I said UVS needs to be better and we will hold them to that standard of the best card game, but like fall of webcam we as a community need to hold each other to a higher standard too. The vocal minority shouldn't represent our community to new players!
That's a good question! There's a community discord that people use often. It should be in my video description, but here's a link as well: discord.com/invite/universusccg
I’m a magic player myself and play Pokémon with my son, he picked up the my hero academia set with 2 decks trying to learn it to teach my son this is very helpful!
You are amazing! i run a LGS and it took me several videos, a forums, the facebook group with more before i landed on clear communication for blocking here
I’m really glad this was able to help! I tend to be very intermittent (my real life is quite busy), but there will be more to this series soon to help new players! Welcome to the game!
Great video. Just got into the game. Thanks. A question i had (haven't actually looked at the rules yet) when watching was.... that action card with the response. Could you pass enhance, your opponent passes enhance. Then play the action responding to their pass? I'm assuming yes.
That’s correct! And because both players passed enhances you would go to block. It’s a sneaky way to push an attack just out of a blockable range. Welcome to the game, and I’m glad you found it informative!
I love the video! This was extremely informative, well formatted, and definitely my go-to video to send to friends learning to play! Quick question on the Block Phase: You fail a block @18:43, and a note pops up that "failing a block doesn't stop you from trying to block again". I had always understood that if the Defender did not try to Block or failed the Check to play their Block, then the Attack is not blocked and the Defender does not get to try again. A Defender may only try to Block once per Attack, but they can still try to Block on other Attacks. Is this what you meant, or have I been playing wrong? 💀💀💀
Yeah I probably didn’t word that the best way. If you fail a block, you can’t try to block the same attack again. But you aren’t locked out of trying to block future attacks! I’m really glad you found this as helpful as you did, and appreciate the kind words.
@@TheChamberMHAAmazing! Thank you for the clarification. I think you worded it fine, I just misunderstood. Thank you again for the content and I look forward to your future videos! 🫡
Man that’s a good question. Baseline, you could swap the missing foundations with some new YYH cards that have the same block zones and swap Tongue Whips for Inverted Knife Throws and call it a day. That being said, Evil has gotten a lot of cool cards in YYH that I would want to experiment with. 80% Power gives Mimic a recursive point and click option for removing foundations, Trace Eyes could serve as a very powerful card for strings, Darkness Dragon Prowess could be a great Stun 3 opener with some health cutting options… and that’s just the attacks! I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting Evil to get so many good tools in YYH since we have been eating good lately. Realistically, you’ll have to spend some time experimenting with the new cards to find the “right” changes. That being said I still think the core of this list is very solid and YYH only makes it better. A couple Unsettling Auras (YYH) + 1-2 more Mastermind Apprentices for controlling deadlock, a couple Unmatched Quickness to replace the lost highs, and a couple Knife Throws+ maybe a single Surprise Daggers for a searchable breaker low block or Darkness Dragon Prowess as a kill string opener could make for an easy start before further experimentation.
