What I really do love about Knock Airport is that the memory and the legacy of Mgr James Horan the original founder of the airport is kept alive and is never forgotten long after his passing ❤❤❤❤❤
Much Love and Best Wishes to all the team at Knock Airport from Manchester U.K. - being Irish, originally from Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, I’ve lived 23 years in Manchester and I come home to Ireland frequently - I’m always looking for ideas for things to do during a relaxing holiday in the West of Ireland, aside from Knock Shrine itself and I’ve always been supportive of the airport since its inception by Mgr James Horan - I remember him as a child growing up in Dunshaughlin and he was a great man indeed 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️❤️
1:33 being Irish and living 23 years in Manchester myself, I agree with this lovely Lancashire lady - I still hold an Irish passport here in the U.K. but Ireland will always be my real home 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I grew up in Dunshaughlin Co Meath when Knock Airport was being built and I was always supportive of the airport as an aviation enthusiast - many decades later here in Manchester U.K., I’m as supportive of Knock Airport as I ever was - I’d love to see direct flights to Knock from Manchester and Liverpool (the latter of which is nearer to me in terms of public transport accessibility) but aside from that, I’d love to fly into Knock in a Cessna or a private jet direct from Manchester or Liverpool as I’ve always wanted to become a pilot - I know that Knock Airport is featured in Microsoft Flight Simulator and other flight sim programs and I believe that VATSIM does flights to Knock - the approach to RWY 27 at EIKN is as challenging as Telluride especially in IMC in the Shannon FIR so IFR is recommended on finals
I used to fly Liverpool early morning flight to Knock on Ryanair on a Saturday morning when I lived in Cheshire and back again on Sunday afternoon. That was a winter option about 5 years ago. Not sure if it is now. I also flew to Knock on Flybe from Manchester but the times were crap for that because they used to go in the middle of the day during the week.
Pity to see the FlyBe crowd disappear due to corruption and bad management. Hopefully Aer Lingus Regional or whatever they call themselves will replace their missing routes.
How come it took four years or more to see this little gem. A great asset to Connaught and a great tribute to a fabulous human being in Monsignor Horan! Nice to see a bustling, modern facility in the bog of beyond!
Monsignor Horan had permission from the CIA to build a runway just long enough for US bombers to take off and land. You don’t need planning permission when the American government is backing you. 🇺🇸🇮🇪
If that man only knew that by 2023 his airport would have welcomed, hundreds of thousands of passengers, celebrities, the holy father pope Francis and the US President (& Vice President in 2016!) - SUPERB!
My favourite airport in the world because I wouldn't be home half as much were it not for it. No fecking about either as 5 mins after rocking up you are through security and in departures
Jim Fahy's most famous interview .....two great West of Ireland men from neighbouring counties. A privilege to have known both on a personal level. The spirit of the West lives on ....!!!
A fantastic facility for everyone in the West. I really enjoyed watching its development. Thank you to everyone in IWAK and, more importantly, Monsignor James Horan.
The Monsignor had to be a bit of a swindler just to get through the thick heads of the politicians, but he did it! A region that actually wanted and needed a proper airport actually got their airport!
The miracle of knock funded by NATO for listening posts on Ireland's cost during a nuclear war.The Irish finally kicked the churches power base out of Ireland.
