Cheers you two! Amazing scenery and worth every pedal stroke! We wished we had gone this route, but instead we were advised it would be best if you stayed on the Toll Road 15D towards Guadalarja. However, as we sat there in Villa Union at the intersection of 40 and 15 we thought long and hard about our route. In the end, we took the advice from a couple local cyclists and stay took 15D. Looking back we both wish we had stuck with our original plans and continued on 40. Anyway... maybe we can return to Matzalan and cycle 40 then. Take care and happy cycling. Looking forward to the next video release from South America. ~Ron & Petra
Ahh the dodgy bottom brackets failing, ultimately you need a bottom bracket like royce, if you've got square taper, if you use a thru axle stlye, I'd go chris King. They all come with a price tag, but that initial outlay will keep you on the road. Happy cycling
Cheers Debs and Tom! We live not far from the Withlachoochee and have cycled it many times. Just off the trail and before you turned to cycle towards Hog Island is a free primitive campsite in the forest that we try and go to once a month for an overnighter on our bikes. It's a short ride (~19 miles) from the house so overnighting there is perfect. Happy to see you visited Rainbow River and Manatee State Park. While you found the springs refreshing, we find them to be way to cold. ;-) Take care!! ~Ron& Petra
I think everybody had their own "just in case" kinda thing for their touring bike set-up lol. New subs here. Really enjoy your video. I hope both of you are in a good health. Stay safe out there. I hope I can have a chance to do the same thing as yours. Someday.
Great video! Really interesting and what an amazing ride you're having! Just wanna know, where abouts in Yorkshire are you from? I'm a Yorkshire lad misen.
If you're in the U.S., for Bottom Bracket problem try a Phil Wood sealed square taper BB. It should last. For Deb's bike you could get a steel fork with disc brake mount. Check Black Mountain Cycles, he has a few steel forks for disc brakes, and is the best wheel builder in California if you want to get rid of that generator hub. Happy trails!☮
Good on you. It's hard enough to breathe in Cusco without climbing on a bike. Fantastic place. Didn't you go to Machu Picchu. Nice little climb up the twisted windy road. You would have to get to agias calantis by train or bike along the train tracks. 😊
Thanks. We cheated and got the train to Machu Picchu from Ollantaytambo, which itself was one of our favourite places. More info on our blog and the previous film.
Wonderful send off you two! Reminds us of our first world tour back in 2013 and our send off. We weren't sure if we were going to make it 2 weeks, 2 months, or a year. Ended up going for 25 months and then in June 2021, we did it again but with less fan fare since we flew to Deadhorse, Alaska. Crazy how far you two have come after 3 years. Cheers and to more happy cycling you two. Ron & Petra
Have watched every video you have made and both of you are truly an inspiration and a wonderful example of retirement, well done. Regarding the Ortlieb clips you could glue them in place?
Thanks for the video, lots of great information. Maybe a video on physically what it’s like to be cycling every day, stretching, resting, how to deal with any physical issues etc bad back, muscle strains would be interesting.
Just found you two the other day. Can't believe I never came across you sooner. Currently playing catch-up on your videos. You are both wonderful people and your videos are fab. Can't wait to see more. Love from a fellow cycle tourer from Scotland 😊
Well I didn’t understand the bike stuff but admire how ‘light’ you are able to travel. I guess if you’re responsible for getting up a mountain then it makes it a bit easier to do without things. Keep smiling x
7:35 The maskot is a Pokemon called Tangela. It's a Grass-type Pokemon that looks like a tangle of vines with a pair of large eyes staring out from within. What the creature actually looks like inside is a mystery.
Great video, thanks for all the info. I have added a couple of extra bits to my mental kit list as a result. One question, how easy is the Rohloff twist control to use? My wife’s arthritis is playing hell with changing gear.
Thanks. It's hard to say about the twist control, I guess it's easier on the fingers but harder on the wrist, as you need to twist it round rather than push a lever. Rohloff do offer an electronic shifter I think.
Really good gear list just found your channel .. looks like you guys are having fun .. i just checked out the gladalme router and plans dam thats expensive..
Thanks. Yes, you've got to be steady with data with Glocalme, but waiting for the special offers and discounts helps. You can put a local sim card in it, which we did in the US (Verizon), so then it is just like a wifi hotspot off the sim, though it can be hard to find a data only sim that allows hotspots.
Top notch and very useful information. Tom, I especially like the way you incorporated your tooth into your bike! 👍👍 🤔 There's a creative story to tell over a pint on how it got there. Amazing world tour!! 🚴🚴
Nice to see a mature couple out and about. I just found your channel and it looks delightful. Years ago, I was on tour with a group of six friends and all the women brought a little black dress and a straw hat for a night on the town or village. You seem to be really enjoying yourselves and traveling at a sensible pace and have found out how to live the life of a 21st Century nomad. I'm a wee bit older and at 82 but I'm now doing short near to home trips since my riding friends are now registered in the book of memories.
Hey there Debs and Tom! This was popped up in our feed so we checked it out. So neat to watch one of your earlier videos. Ireland looks amazing that is for sure. How did this climb compare to the ones in Guatemala? We found those in Guatemala to be the hardest we've ever cycled. Cheers! Ron & Petra
I think that track up to the Caha Pass is still the steepest road we've been on. The passes themselves were easy compared to South America though. I think we missed the worst hills of Guatemala because we came in from Belize though.
We are glad to see that you are on the road again and that Toms teeth’s (or Tom without it‘s teeth’s) is doing well. We have already been waiting for your next video eagerly 😊😇. Meanwhile I enjoyed reading Debs blog. I absolutely love your humor 👍😂.
Hello Debs and Tom!! Sorry to hear about the teeth but hopefully this will take care of your pain Tom. While Machu Picchu is the hot spot, Pisac looks amazing as well. Hard to imagine just how many stones are there to make up those cities. A bazillion + a couple gazillion most likely! Truly amazing stuff! Thank you for sharing this with us and helping us to keep our dream alive to complete our ride to Ushuaia. Happy cycling and looking forward to your next video. Cheers ~Ron & Petra
Thanks Ron & Petra. After 3 weeks and many hours in the dentist chair the teeth are finally getting sorted and there is light at the end of the tunnel! Hopefully we'll have enough time on our visa to get to the Amazon as planned. Stay tuned!
I'm very interested to know did you make music did you buy music did you just find some nice royalty free stuff how did you create your background tracks thank you
Hi. I used to use www.jamendo.com/ which was nice and independent, but have recently switched to RU-vid audio library as frankly it is a little easier to use.
I remember when you snapped your front tooth in half 30 odd years ago headbutting my sink in Wearmouth Hall Scumderland. Oh the memories. You'll probably get better dentistry in Peru than over here. I've gone private now and it cost me £700 for a wisdom tooth removal and a root planing. You don't wanna do one of them boss.😅 All the best. Dan.
Ha, I remember that too. Getting through the dentistry after many hours in the chair. Took 2 hours to get one of the wisdom teeth out as it had a hooked root. Now into more extractions and root grafting! Can't wait to get out of here...
