I was at Coleg Harlech in 1962/3. What a wonderful part of the world it was. The Coleg was great and trips up to the St. davids Hotel stick in my memory. I especially remember one evening before Christmas up there when there was some beautiful singing. What a tragedy for both wonderful old places. David Stevenson
I stayed at St Davids Hotel with my parents way back in 1969 in a room in the rear block, i remember so much about it. Watching this video i hold tears back as it brings back memories in a sad kinda way, i find the video and the music relate very well giving an eery feel to the whole film, a good piece of work. I guess it was money to a certain extent and lack of custom as is the case with so many businesses closing nowadays. Such a shame......its' times like this I would love to go back in time......knowing what I know now with a camera. Cheers for the upload.
I've driven past this place a bunch of times on my way to strines or taking the 'scenic route' to Sheffield/Manchester. Do you know anything about it's history?
Great times there as a kid in the 70s and 80s with my sis and cousins. The location is stunning and the gardens were gorgeous. Tea and cakes by the pool, dressing for dinner, silver service - the works! Sorry to see it now but good memories.
I did performing arts at coleg Harlech and the people who owned it had a son who was in my class Named Sonny .. I hope he is ok shocked to see this ..:( so saddened ..
Such a shame that people think it's cool and fun to destroy so much - this could have contained so many amazing projects and benefitted so many local people - especially the area as there's a big need for interesting space for local artists (although the people who did this thought they were being artistic, probably).
Very, very cool video even for still shots! Hard to believe by the state of the place that it could have still been in operation as recently as the 70's or 80's by how rotted through so many of the roofs are. Creepy as hell how it was such a dismal, wet day - perfectly fit the mood of the place. Great job - loved it!
I worked here in the 70's when it was still a children's home. It was a wonderful place. Last piece is completely wrong, William Jessop lived in the 1700's. He co-operated with Brunell on the building of the aquaduct on the LLangollen canal. It's now owned privately by a property developer from Sheffield who has let it get to this state. You can find more from local people on Sheffield Forum.
Seeing the front room by the entrance with the grand piano and such stunning views reduced to a wreck is simply devastating. I remember sitting in there as a primary school kid on a school trip and we were all summoned there for interrogation because someone set the fire alarm off. It was a truly stunning place to be and seeing it like this makes you wonder why it allowed to get into such a state.
@xXxSPStyleLoverzxXx if your the the daughther , son or whatever of william jessop - (look it up !) - the guy was well famous in the steel industry around sheffield - shame :( ...he was the man
So sad, have driven past this place so many times just thinking how gorgeous it could be if someone had the money to do it, it makes me so angry when you get thugs and vandals smashing things up just for the hell of it.. Very sad to see how wrecked it is from inside, as when you drive past it doesnt look it.. Another soon to be victim of the mad power hungry luxury flat development that noone can afford to buy anyway companies
XD My surname is Jessop!!! && great vid! I truly love to see buildings like this, its magnificent! I live in Yorkshire, and ive been to the yorkshire moors, i wanna go again and see that though:)
I lived in Harlech from 1999-2004. I can't believe this. So sad to see. So many good memories of parties, nights in the bar and the famous karaoke night in the lounge when my colleague was leaving. And let's not forget Indian Buffet night. Unbelievable.
@thecoatester Why have any music at all, it does absolutely nothing for the movie, like the stupid transition effects that all but make it unwatchable.
I came across the video because I was hoping to make a return visit. Unbelievable! This really is so so sad. We had a great family holiday there. The sunsets over the sea, viewed from the dining room.. while enjoying a wonderful dinner.... were stunning. Happy memories.
the scaffoldings been there a while by the looks of it - maybe the job was called off ? ...or they removed something ? ..who knows but its got a few year on the poles and boards
what a shame. its beyond me why people vandalize places when they have been abandoned. its so wrong. what a waste of what looked like a lovely place one rime.
yes i agree - looking up close it looks like the damp as truly set in , its mainly sandstone witch corrodes quite easily ,and its position puts it in extreme weather conditions, shame :( , but yes it would have been the same entertainment, good drink and possible hunt ha haa...thankyou
