The channel is a guide to travel and exploration that aims to be educational ( and hopefully entertaining as well) in nature.

Sites to see, places to explore, cultures to experience, history to learn, and some occasional tips along the way.

The channel began just as Covid set in, so it was a slow start off the mark, but getting there.

We set course to explore and discover the many beautiful, unusual and at times strange places in the world near and far. To gain better appreciation of Mother nature’s wonders as well as the many ancient and modern man-made structural marvels around us.

This is a perfect description of Sir Isaac Newton's equipotential theory of tides, and I liked the early references to our forebears tentative steps to a correct understanding of physical law. Although, I feel it is my duty to offer a few insights, which you may find helpful. *Newton's Universal Law of Gravitation* and his *Third Law of Motion* are entirely different concepts. One is concerned with the attraction of *Mass* and the other is concerned with the *Motion* or Mass. The gravitational differential is not an example of a *Tidal Force.* The differential is only the result of an inverse square law geometry. Tidal forces are only applicable in *General Relativity,* where Newtonian Mechanics become blurred by the intense *gravitational* and *inertial* fields near a black hole, resulting in a gravitational potential tensor from the inside outwards. As far as the Earth is concerned, it's moving on a straight line at a constant speed *(Newton First Law of Motion).* It is subjected to an *apparent* centripetal force called gravity, and it's motion is altered into an accelerated *orbital* motion, *(Newton's Second Law of Motion)* around a common centre of mass, called a barycentre. Now, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction *(Newton's Third Law of Motion)* which results in a *centrifugal force,* pointing in a direction away from the gravitational source. The net effect at the centre of the Earth is *zero,* but the resultant effect is approximately two tides a day. Both pointing *away* from the Earth's centre of Mass, influenced by the external gravitational source. The tractive component of tidal accelerations is just a distraction from the real cause of tides, which is the *inertial* motion of the water across the surface of the Earth and the *energy* expended in moving a mass from one place to another. Best wishes and thank you for kindly reading.

Hi Davey, thanks for the feedback. I just wanna address a few points you made, for clarity. “Now, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction (Newton's Third Law of Motion) which results in a centrifugal force, pointing in a direction away from the gravitational source.” Newton’s third law says the opposite reactive force does not apply to the same mass. The centripetal force on earth is caused by the moon’s pull. The centrifugal force, (which is a pseudo force) is only felt when you’re in an accelerated frame, not because of any force that the moon is applying to theEarth. So we can’t say the opposite reaction to Earth’s centripetal force is the centrifugal force. But Newton’s 3rd law does say the Earth is applying a centripetal force to the moon.

@@TravGuideChannel Wow! That's impressive, thanks. I wasn't expecting such a thorough dissection of my words like that. Would you mind if I transpose some of thoughts to my own creation, as I've discussed this at length over the past four years? And your presence would be greatly appreciated. *In short.* You don't need to invoke the third law to understand Newtonian gravitation. The statement that says, _"Every particle in the universe attracts every other, with a force proportional to its mass"_ is enough. Gravity is not time dependent, so it does not describe motion. That was Stephen Hawking's own sentiment. The Third Law is a law of motion, and is also the basis of our understanding of the conversation of momentum. If a rocket is sitting on a launch pad. As the engines start, it throws out exhaustive gases at high speed *(low mass at high speed = high mass at low speed)* and the rocket takes off, overcoming the gravitational attraction of the Earth. However, here's the really astounding thing! Newton's law of Gravitation is not complete, and he even admitted that himself, when he wrote, _"You can't have a force without an agent to produce it, and an agent must be in contact with an object to apply the force."_ *Gravity and Inertia* _(Centrifugal)_ are both pseudo forces, which only appear in an accelerated frame of reference. One that is non-inertial. That is the basis of General Relativity. Any object in freefall does not feel its own weight. I may revise this later, as I wrote this from memory. You would be very welcome to discuss this further on my cartoon, as your creation is a triumph of reason, amongst the misguided individuals who still think the Earth moves towards the Moon filling budges and leaving water behind. 😁 Thank you.
@TravGuideChannel
@TravGuideChannel 3 дня назад
That was quite a response, it would be helpful If you could narrow down to one particular line of thought. That way I would have a better idea the direction of where your question is.
@wavydaveyparker
@wavydaveyparker 3 дня назад
@@TravGuideChannel Yeah, I have a habit of rambling at times, as I prefer not to let any youngsters get a chance to ask questions before I've left the room - kidding! - questions are the lifeblood of education. I'm not questioning your explanation, it's perfect, but just trying to highlight some possible questions you're likely to be asked in the future. When you showed the statue of Newton and said, _"He changed everything with his third law of motion."_ I was really surprised, because most people would've have said, _"Gravity!"_ and I personally think Newton would've agreed, although he did have a soft spot rainbows and F=ma. Then, you quote the universal law and say, this implies that the Moon pulls on the Earth, with the same force as the Earth pulls on the Moon. This sends them into an orbital motion around a barycentre, where the gravitational attraction is balanced with the inertial force. Then, some bright spark says, "Inertia is not a force!" I'll try and address each of your replies more directly later. Have a great day!
@wavydaveyparker
@wavydaveyparker 3 дня назад
@@TravGuideChannel How about this, you said: _"The centripetal force on earth is caused by the moon’s pull, the centrifugal force, (which is a pseudo force) is only felt when you’re in an accelerated frame, not because of any force that the moon is applying to the Earth. So we can’t say the opposite reaction to Earth’s centripetal force is the centrifugal force. But Newton’s 3rd law does say the Earth is applying a centripetal force to the moon."_ Although we could easily say this instead, which would be equally accurate and correct: The centrifugal force on earth is caused by the Earth's tendency to want to continue in a straight line motion. The centripetal force of gravity, (which is a pseudo force) is only felt when you’re in an accelerated frame of reference, not because of any force that the moon is applying to the Earth. So we *can* say the opposite reaction to Earth’s centrifugal force is the centripetal force at its centre of mass (not it's common centre of mass). But Newton’s law of Gravitation, does say the Moon is applying a centripetal force to the Earth. Does that help?

I want to take the train from wakugen to Chicago otc. Is it safe? How do I do it
@TravGuideChannel
@TravGuideChannel Месяц назад
The Union pacific north line would be the metra train that will take you from waukegan to the otc ( olgivie transportation center). I haven’t taken that train, so I can’t really talk about the safety, but my experience on the trains I have taken is they’ve always been safe. Safer than the cta trains in my opinion As for how to ride that particular train, here is the webpage for Metra on schedules and stops. That would be a good starting point for you to check into. ridertools.metrarail.com/maps-schedules/train-lines/UP-N/stations/WAUKEGAN Also, metra has made some changes in the way they determine fares and the zones at the start of 2024, I did make a new metra video that explains this, the 2024 version. I’ll link you to it here. In case you’re interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qZ02E8FKWvw.htmlsi=Zb7n555iVkWiLbrL
@TravGuideChannel
@TravGuideChannel Месяц назад
And one more point about safety, since you’re going to the OTC, that’s a pretty busy area and I don’t think there’s much issue about safety, but I would avoid going too late if you plan an evening trip, only because Chicago downtown at night you will see a lot of homeless people, and some of them can be at times a bit aggressive in their behavior. I’ve rode mostly the CTA trains to downtown and have arrived late on some occasions, I’ve been a few times approached by homeless people, but they’ve never been what I would say acting dangerous to me. But you still have to be careful walking the streets in downtown at night. Good luck on your metra trip.

At about 3:40 the video discusses the metra zones. The zones are important for riders to understand as fare is determined by zones. The first 3 minutes the video discusses how Metra fits in the chicago public transportation system. If someone rides metra, knowing its role in how it works within this framework ( that includes cta and pace) is helpful to know where metra provides service.

I was visiting Chicago and I had to take the metra electric but there was one problem, there wasn’t a ticket machine at the station (I think the station was 63rd street or somewhere close to that) so I was like well I can just buy a ticket on the train but when the conductor came up to me they said they only accept cash and I don’t have enough cash and the conductor wasn’t happy with me and by the time I had finished talking with the conductor it was my stop so I just got off without paying, in my defense I didn’t have cash and there wasn’t a ticket machine at 63rd street station

I've looked into the health effects of airline noise and its tremendously effects and I'm starting to feel my blood pressure change. Metra requires a metra ticket or pass. These can be purchased at the train station or through the ventra app. If purchased through the ventra app the metra ticket /pass is loaded to the app and shown to conductor when on train ( not the ventra card). You can’t use the metra ticket/pass to ride cta trains/buses.
