We moved from hectic Fort Lauderdale, FL to Sebring, FL in April of 2023. When people think of Florida many just think of Disney World, Miami, perhaps the Daytona 500, and, of course, the beaches. We believe that Florida offers so much more when exploring the interior and even some of the older coastal towns. Our journey begins with us moving to Sebring and sharing our life and adventures.
Come and join us as we do projects in and around the house and yard, start a food forrest, shop locally, visit farmers' markets, hike trails in state parks, road trip to old Florida towns and more... It is then that we, and also maybe you, will discover with us how much more Florida is than "Florida man", a famous mouse and spring break!

I don't know your situation but this is a move we have not regretted in the least bit. There many reasons why but two factors have absolutely proven it was right for us: less hectic (than Fort Lauderdale) and hurricane Helene was extremely mild with just some average winds and less than average rain. Our stress levels have dropped significantly here compared to Fort Lauderdale just considering those two factors.
@@ThomasTJGillespie Thanks for answering. I'm in Princeton, near Homestead. It used to be quite nice here. Semi-rural, quiet, no traffic. Now overdevelopment has created a traffic mess. You're trapped in your house. Travel times have more than doubled. I retired in January of last year and my wife retires in June. We are considering relocation to somewhere with a slower pace. My family is here, and my youngest daughter is in Winter Park. We figured we start looking for a place in between, and away from the coasts.
Just to the right when you walk in and under the wall mounted shelving I built. That shelving will hold the monitors and eventually will have a closing, lockable door for safe keeping.
My husband and I are enjoying your Sebring journey. We too are thinking of moving to Sebring. Thanks for taking us around town. We’ve never been to Sebring, but are getting familiar with the town through your videos.
Hi there. My wife and I took 3 extended stay trips to Sebring. The first one was to get a better look at the city and then drive around and look at homes / neighborhoods. At that time we were still looking at other cities as a possibility. Our second trip up things started to get more serious. We liked area and the neighboring cities of Lake Placid and Avon Park but focused our home shopping mostly to Sebring. Our 3rd trip up we saw well over 20 homes and finally found this one you see in the videos. I recommend that you do the same. Try to take a long weekend or, better yet, 10 to 14 days to spend in Sebring. Do what we did and rent a home off of AirBnb and live like a local. Go to the grocery store, visit the weekly fireman flea market, go to a farmers market, visit some bars and parks, etc... Try to do during your stay what you'd do normally where you currently live. I know of no better way. May good fortune be with you on your journey.
@@ourSebringLife thank you for your reply and suggestions. We do plan a trip before buying, but we are going to have to heavily depend on our realtor since we live Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has become unbearable. Not only with the snow but our town has turned into a circus. We do not recognize it anymore and we are looking for a laid back community with like minded people. We do have relatives in the Port St. Lucie area and our son has recently moved to Orlando with his wife. He says all the time that they’ll never return to Pittsburgh and how refreshing Florida is. We really are enjoying your videos. You do a great job explaining everything. We can’t wait to open up a pineapple and drink water from a coconut when we move to Florida 🥥 Happy 4th!! 💥🧨🇺🇸🇺🇸🫡
@@camp5607 Hi!!! This is Silvia from Our life in Sebring and more!! Let us know if you have any questions along your journey to the free and wonderful state of Florida. We are more than happy to share our experiences! And stay tuned as we are planning on uploading videos of drives through the different Sebring neighborhoods as we feel it may help people decide from far away. If you do end up in Sebring let us know and we can go and grab a drink to your new journey! :)
My grand daughter, Shelby, got married at the Meyer Theater. She and her wife, Jessica now live in Milwaukee. I hope you had a phenomenal visit. Wish I could have seen you TJ, and met you Silvia.
Are you referring to the miracle berry? If so, the initial bite is a little tangy, slightly sweet but good. Not a lot of flesh as the berry is mostly pit. As said, the fun with the fruit is the fact that it makes things you eat sweeter.
Silvia, the yard looks beautiful! Congratulations on the pending sale. It was over 90 degrees in Kenora yesterday. summer has arrived. It is fun to watch TJ's shed project. Keep well. Mark and Caroline.
Thank you, Mark. I haven't spent any time on the shed in about a week so you'll see a break in the video postings on the activity. Not to worry, we have other great subject matter coming your way. :)
Very Nice staging. The house looks great! wonderful job of decluttering. The gardens look great as well. It should go for top dollar looking like this. Silvia you have a great sense of style and reuse sheik! Let us know how the sale works out. All the hard work will pay off. We miss you guys1
Thank you, Mark! We are under contract and also have a back up contract in place. At this time we do feel confident the first sale will go through but there are no guarantees until the buyer has signed all the paperwork AND the lender gives the okay on the final review.
TJ, The She Shed is dead I guess. You should look into the cost and benefits of spray foam as opposed to fiberglass insulation. Spray foam is a better insulation and also doubles as a vapor barrier ( no need for plastic wrap). Also consider insulating the floor as well. It will ultimately save you on electricity consumption for the AC unit.
Mark, I made my decision to use roll insulation based solely on the DYI cost. My super loose eyeball estimate is $500 for roll insulation and a spray foam kit was over $1,000. However, this morning I sent out 2 requests to companies to get a spray foam quote. I'm hoping they may be more competitive due to economies of scale. Faced fiberglass insulation acts as a vapor barrier when properly installed and is what I would be using if I do it myself. The floor is currently plywood. That floor is not perfectly flat and has some ridges where boards meet. Not yet mentioned in the videos is that I have many boxes of water resistant laminate flooring. At this time I'm thinking I'd line the plywood floor with some sort of underlayment to help smooth out those ridges and then lay down the laminate. Thank you for the insight and stay tuned! TJ
I can easily understand why you want to plant some trees or shrubs along the backyard which is totally exposed to your neighbor. Love the woods in the back. Wouldn’t it be cool if it was a nature conservancy? Wouldn’t need to check into buying it then. Do you have a boat to put in on that lovely lake? Your new home looks just swell guys. Welcome to Sebring!
The nature conservancy is an interesting angle. May have to explore that. No boat yet. We are dreaming of a pontoon boat. Plenty of space to soak on the sun and fish at the same time. We love the home. Crazy as it may sound, it might almost be too big. We are so used to living in 1,200 sq/ft. 1,900 sq/ft and we are confused on how we will make look like we aren't house poor!!!! LOL Our current vision is to keep it roomy but practical - just enough furniture to live in and yet enjoy every square foot.
