Hello! My name is Jarred and I am and Landscape Photographer based in the South Island of New Zealand. My goal with this channel is to hopefully get more eyes on my work, share the beautiful country that I live in and hopefully teach (and learn!) a few things along the way!
😂 Still, they’re a cool thing to have - if not a bit of a curse as well. I won a Pro-200 back in 2022, will need to find space for it in the new house!
Thanks Jarred. I remember thinking tilt shift was black magic when I first read about it as a kid. I couldn't understand why everyone wasn't using a field camera at the time 😂😂
Hah. T/S lenses for non view/field cameras like the Mamiya RZ67 have been a thing for a long time too. Not sure what Sony has to offer but I can even get them for my GFX now! You could always adapt the Canon EF mount ones if you got really keen on playing with it.
@@JarredSpec here you are with $50k of gear and I’m just happy I bought a sand bag this week so my tripod doesn’t wobble around like a drunken sailor when it’s windy 😂
Such epic scenery, looking forward to seeing it in person! I trust there's no hazing ritual for heretics that shoot with gear from ... another manufacturer? May or may not rhyme with nanon?
So that was the night I was taking the dog for a walk and the sky was red. I remember looking at it and going... 'hmmm. that's weird' and that was it. Next day everyone at work was sharing their photos they took and I was like 'shit. so that's what that was'
The long processing time is the camera capturing a second exposure with the shutter closed. It will subtract the noise pattern from that exposure from the image you took. You can switch it off in the settings if you want, and there will be no processing delay.
I have long exposure NR turned off. It’d take an equal amount of time as the exposure if that were the case - a 2 min black frame for a 2 min exposure. Not 8 secs for exposures 1 min and above as I have been observing.
Hey mate, you may be able to help - I know you sped up the footage, but how long did your prints in this size take? I'm trying to find out the print speed for what would be 6x4's, the only information I can find is about A3's being 90 seconds.
Hey sorry for the slow reply! In the process of moving house at the mo! I’ve not printed any 6x4s. 8x10s/Full A4 tends to take under a minute from memory, I imagine 6x4s are pretty quick, sub 30secs I reckon. Once I’m fully setup in the new place I’ll run a few test prints for ya
HI Jarred, thank you for a very informative video. I have been leaning towards the explore v2 for quite some time, long enough that shimoda made a new bag. It looks very nice and less bulky than the explore v2. I have a similar kit, i was worried if it would fit. You dissipated that. Myother fear is that the lack of hip belt will be a real problem. I am not a big guy, and you do mention towards the end that the explore v2 is more confortable. AFter how long do you feel the kit you showed gets unconfortable for you and you miss the hip belt ? Thanks, cheers form France Edit: forgot to ask: is the side access big enough for the gfx?
I don’t use the hip belt myself (I removed mine from the Explore). The shoulder straps on the Explore are the more comfortable part, they’re wider and spread the load a bit more. I’d definitely suggest the Explore v2 over the Urban Explore if you expect to be going on some several hour hikes. I think the 30L would be the sweet spot in either bag if your kit is similar to mine. Side access for the GFX in the Urban Explore 25L would be a squeeze I think, definitely easier on the Explore v2 or the 30L version of the Urban Explore (dont use the side access feature myself)
Be aware...Shimoda says this fits a 16" laptop but it is very tight. You won't be storing and removing that laptop with one hand. If you have a case on your $3400 MacBook Pro (like I do) it's very difficult to store and remove. After the 16" laptop is in, that front pocket also gets tight and much less usable. Anything you put in the front pocket better be very thin. I think a dedicated zipper area would have been better than having its access be INSIDE of another compartment. The larger 30L version doesn't appear to have more room for a laptop than the 20L. Both say they hold a 16" laptop.
Yeah I found fitting a 15” Laptop into my Explore 35L tough too, despite it being rated for one, I think Shimoda base their sizing on the Apple laptops. That said I’m not really one to travel with a laptop - dont even own one anymore :)
Nice video! I've just ordered one as a more daily bag because I've got the big Lowepro Whistler 450 and it's just too big. Btw, what L-Brackets do you use? I'm looking for one for my X-H2S!
Love the presspan! I live in the same city as Freeman and actually sold him my old Nikon FE to be turned into a presspan. It's possible you have my old camera!
That’s a good question! It was the main board on my X-T4 that died - figured it was worth repairing so I can at least sell it off. I imagine standard e-waste (computers etc) would take them
Nice video mate, 25L is a great size. Just started using the Fjallraven Kajka 35L and it’s a good usable size rather than the larger 40-45L bags on market. Great stuff 👌
Perfect video to watch, just switched to the GFX a few months ago and awaiting the 30L version of this bag. I think the 30L insert is the same as the explore v2 so might have a bit extra room but glad to see a similar kit.
Most of the Ilford Galerie stuff is pigment only, plus some Epson fine art papers. We don’t have a huge selection available here locally in NZ. What disadvantages have you found with pigment printers?
@@JarredSpec It is said that prints from even expensive pigment-ink printers look grainier and colors are not as vivid in comparison to prints from good dye-ink printers. Dye inks come inside the paper, not changing the paper's texture while pigments lay on the surface. So dye-ink prints resemble traditional prints better. Also, the clogging problem of pigment-ink printers is much worse. For instance, a few times I didn't touch my Pro-100 printer for more than a year and after turning it on I was able to print without any clogging! Can imaging this with pigment printers? Another thing is longevity. The new Canon pigment inks that are used in Pro-1000 are not very good in this regard. In some longevity tests they are even worse than the dye-inks from Canon!
@JarredSpec regarding the Ilford papers. Why do you think that their fine art papers can't be used with dye-ink printers? Usually, paper's ink receiving layers work with dyes no worse than with pigments. I print mostly on Baryta styled papers. My prints look incredible (Canson Platine Rag, Ilford Gold Fibre Pearl, etc.)! However, my prints on cotton or alpha-cellulosed papers with matte surfaces also look great. The notions like "designed for pigment printers" usually is just a marketing thing.
@OrelRussia ive tried some 13x19” Ilford Galerie Gold Pearl that I was gifted and always had issues with missed spots or almost what looked like scratches in the ink. No such problems with the Hahnemuhle or Canon papers in the same size. Put it down to it being a pigment requirement - too expensive to investigate further hah - so am sticking with manufacturers recommendations :)
@@JarredSpec the spots that you're referring to are the dust particles or scratches of the ink receiving layer. Surely, if such particles come off from your prints there will be blank spots. It's not the problem with inks but with corresponding papers. Yes, the surface of that Ilford paper is rather fragile indeed.
I started to see the differences on the various papers as you pointed them out. Who'd have thought !! You're also looking & sounding more relaxed in this vid. Just as if you're having a chat with a mate. Great work 🎉🎉🎉
Amazing ! Not many are doing this kind of video. Very cool and light to watch. By the way, the prints are awesome 🙌. I really like the minimalistic side in the black and white image 🔥 but they are all really amazing 👌
Great informative video! Thank you! Could you please tell me if the body can fit in vertical position (grip facing up with lens attached), with laptop in the sleeve? Would be handy to have the grip facing up so you can save space + take it straight out. Would love to know!
Cheers! Ill take a look when im done at work today - I dont have a laptop to put into the sleeve but ill stuff a couple of ipads in there and see how it goes 👍
Hey man, it will with a caveat or two. I had to remove the L Bracket and it will close and fit - but it was hard against the sleeve for the laptop. There is a bit of padding in the sleeve of course but not sure how well it'd protect in the long term. Hope that helps!
Hey, what cube are you using with it? I tried it at my local store and it looked to me that the spaces would be to shallow for my gfx 50s and 3 prime lenses
That second tree shot looked great and very clever use of the panoramic on the waterfall pointing out that you weren't missing much above or below. Awesome work!
