Ok I’m feeling even better about my shoe choice this week- Topo Terraventure, which are a little big. I made sure they were after a long walk in Salomons Ultra 3D pro wrecked my feet on a long walk. They were goretex too and my feet cooked and swole in them. I too bought several pairs of the Salomons over the years until they narrowed the toe box in the last model I bought, which ruined them for me. I had gone the other way wearing minimalist footwear but I think the barefoot style would be too hard on the feet over the distance of the Camino. I’d like more time to get used to the new shoes but they feel good. Trail runners with a wide toe box. So fingers crossed 🤞
I watched some of your other videos. I am interested in some of your packing ideas. Please tell me where to find the puffy jacket in your backpack packing video. I’m looking to go on the Camino Frances in the April May. I thought that was a great jacket.
I’ll echo the other commenter: this is very helpful and your narration was spot on. One thing that would make this video tutorial better would be able to see the maps clearly. Next time try shrinking your giant head and make the subject the majority of the screen.
Thank you for your videos. I will be hiking the Camino Frances for the first time in September. I am a curvy woman in my late 50s and I've had a few medical setbacks and am starting over with 5 weeks to train. But you give me the confidence that I need to continue and enjoy the journey.
Yes. It was no problem at all. Though the international flights have gotten tighter on baggage rules this past year than they used to be. I still think he umbrella would be fine even though technically it would stick out of the bag too long.
It was one of my most difficult days. Torrential downpour and the hill was mud. I cursed the whole way up. And continued walking to Fonfria. But I was about ready to stop the Camino and go somewhere warm for a couple of weeks and then return when I dried off.
I know this is important to you. But the rest of the world does not think of Galicia as another country. It is part of Spain. So we talk about Sarria, Spain because that is the country it is located in. When Galicia becomes a nation, I will gladly refer to that nation in videos. Galicia is a beautiful place, but as for now Galicia is part of Spain.
I understand your premise but I cant drop everything for a 30+ day walk. I have a wife, kids and a business to look after. I'll do it when I dont have to pay school fees. Meantime, Camino vids are escapism. Thx, Matt
I totally understand that perspective. I’ve never been able to go for 30+ days either and I’ve even been able to make it part of my work! I made a rule a long time ago…Go even when it isn’t perfect. Can you go for 7 days? We can plan a Camino that’s 7 days. Can you get 10? That can be planned too. Maybe business and family doesn’t allow to completely disconnect. But what if you only worked an hour a day while there? Would that make it feasible? I once taught on online theology class while on Camino! That stuff isn’t ideal. But it might be the difference between making the Way now and making it 20 years from now.
im french sorry for my "frenglish" but really great thanks in france alls videos are without overweight.... as if france population is ......slim ...butis no the reality so more tanks
just some info for people that aren't from spain/europe about buying deodorant: we usually buy it from grocery stores/supermarkets, not from pharmacies -pharmacies usually have special ones for skins sensitivities or something like that- .
Definitely will depend on where you are starting and how early you get your tickets. They go up closer to date. And there is no easy way to get to St Jean. So you could get it for 100. But don’t be surprised by 300
Hope you clarify something for me. I purchased a train ticket from Santiago Madrid. Seems I booked with a Rail Ninja but they will not send me my ticket till June 24 by email. I have asked them to send me the now but their policy is a few weeks later. Is Rail Ninja a safe site?
I haven’t used them. But it’s probably safe. They are a reseller. So they can’t send the ticket because they don’t have it yet (my guess). Renfe does not release the tickets for sale until about one month prior to travel.
Sitting here, nursing a Spring cold and wishing I were in Spain so the next best thing . . . Some good points here but, while we each walk our own Camino, I'll just say: too many clothes, too big a bag. The temptation is: Oh, I've got some space, what else ought I take? I did my first CF Camino (2001) with a 60L pack which was what I had, by the time I got to Pamplona I shipped home about a third of the gear. Since then I've found 40L is more than enough. If you carry two water bottles drink from the one in the left pocket first; on the CF you are walking west and the sun is on your back/left hand side. The left hand bottle gets warmer and tepid water mid afternoon is NOT refreshing! Summer, in Spain, on the Camino and no hat? Tsk, Tsk! Also, Duct tape - take a few metres worth wrapped around an old store card. Finally, and this is the most important point DO. NOT. PIERCE. BLISTERS. WITH. A. NEEDLE. AND. THREAD! As a friend, a feisty Irishwoman and a medical doctor who has worked with MSF in war zones and refugee camps across the world and who doesn't suffer fools lightly once put it to a major in the Spanish army medical corps who was busily piercing blisters: "Why not give them a shot of toxin instead?" If you get a hot spot tape it up, even duct tape will do. Keep it clean, keep it dry and let the air get to it when resting. If you have to walk on it tape it over - again, even duct tape will do. ¡Ultreia y buen Camino a todos!
Sorry I won't be able to cross paths with you as I will be towards the end of my camino at the start of yours. Your channel has helped me so much in answering the call I have to walk camino
Thank you for your videos. I am finding them very helpful. I do have one question…we plan to start in St Jean Pier de Port and see how far we get. If we think we are running out of time and may not make it to Santiago, we may need to jump forward to make sure we make it to the Cathedral. Do we need to walk the last 100 kilometers to get our compostela OR, if we have done 200 kilometers from St Jean and jump forward, can we only do the last 50 kilometers before the cathedral and still get our compostela? I hope that made sense… thank you for any info
Glad the videos are helpful! The only steps that matter FOR THE COMPOSTELLA are that you walk the LAST 100km. So if you jump ahead, you will need to jump to Sarria if you want a compostella.
Just did day 1 today from st jean to roncesvalles. It's really hard. I hope it is the hardest day and it will be easier from now on. The last 5 kms were insane. I took the route through valcarlos. The other route is not allowed at this time of the year
