Thanks Don. On their way to you and well packed. Should be about a week. Already bought myself a couple of Leviathan Dreadnoughts with the proceeds! :-)
@@AstartesAngel it's kind of frowned upon to have more than 1 squad of them in a game because lets face it, they are undercosted for what they are, so unless your playing ultra competitive tourney games I just wouldn't. I would probably suggest getting yourself some Locutarus made up. They always do some real work for me in games and honestly I think they are better than the Suzies.
@thatnewhobbyhigh the shields were fun to do, but the models themselves not so much. Plastic > resin every time. P.s. make sure to give them Thunder Hammers. I would say 5 at least if you can manage it.
@bhollow711 thanks man. Keep wondering if I should do weathering and battle damage but feel like the clean look suits the Ultramarines. Working on some Suzerain currently.
I got battered. IW went first, 5/6 tanks were out of the game in some way before i even got my first turn. Summoned Demons are ridiculous. They can pull off something like a 23" +2D6 charge in turn 1. If you ever play Iron Warriors just take full Infantry. NO tanks. Their legion rule is just too good against them. This wasn't even a strong IW list.
@austinseneca2661 just your bog standard IKEA glass shelving cabinet. 2 side by side.(Everyone has these, nothing compares for model display) an IKEA light in the top, and some strip lights all around the front edge. They aren't the most expensive either. Oh....called Detolf and discontinued at the start of 2024. That's a shame, they are the best by miles.
Your videos are much better than mine! Really enjoy your honest style :-) To be honest I've been collecting and painting for nigh on 20 years. My first 40k army was Necrons, back in 3rd edition. HH2.0 has given me a new lease of life as all my friends/gaming group switched over to it on release. I've got more time and money now so can actually give the hobby the effort it needs, so yeah been painting pretty solidly since release. Takes me a good month to paint a sinlge unit so...lol. Actually got a 3k game against IW and everything is painted, finished and based. A proud day! I live relatively close to Warhammer World so feel free to nudge me if you find anything too difficult to get over there.
Thank you. I've been trying to paint consistently since HH2.0 was released so might actually get to have a fully painted Army soon. Suzerain or Locutarus next I think. Still got lots of stuff to paint, then a Kratos to build. Cancel Reply
@thatnewhobbyhigh thank you my man. I'm happy with how it came out Reckon it's better than the official figure in honesty. Was sorely tempted to grab Guillinan earlier as I was at Warhammer World...just managed to stop myself.
@@IrishJayc63 Well. It was black. Then using the airbrush I did a full spray of Deep Sky Blue, then a zentihal style highlight with Royal Blue, then the same with Deep Sky Blue, then the same with Pale Grey Blue. At this stage I also focused a bit on raised armour sections and lines. I then used Game Ink Blue sprayed from the bottom for the shadows and areas under the gun arcs and front and back. This helps to deepen the shadows and resaturate the colour as I find airbrush work can get a bit...I dunno....washed out otherwise? Inks are great at adding colour and depth back in. I then do a full edge highlight with Deep Sky Blue, and then a final highlight with Pale Greyblue, using a paint brush. I'm using a CR+ Infinity and find that the little limiter on the back really helps to stop overspray and helps with not overdoing it. MOST IMPORTANT! THEY DRY DARK! So I actually did it first time, finished, varnished it, then came back the next day and it was way way too dark. So in honesty,. its worth spraying it, then coming back the next day before Varnishing or doing any further painting and maybe getting the airbrush on it again. Also worth noting that the Edge highlights LIGHTEN the vehicle significantly, so no harm it being a little dark. Hope that helps in some way. (p.s. all my paints are vallejo). It's all about thinning them well. There are some great videos from Vince Venturella that are well worth watching. @VinceVenturella
Alright I will definitely give that a go, never tried adding the shadows, only thin layers an leaving those areas light. an I know exactly what you mean. it’s funny I was doing volumetric highlighting on my marines but I did it by hand. An I was like it’s too chalky an blends are not smooth enough. So I decided I was going to strip them. But I thought no harm in varnishing them with my airbrush an get some more experience knowing I was stripping them regardless. Low a behold 24 hours after matt varnishing them it toned down the chalky affect a smoothed the blends. I’m still gonna strip them but I was shocked at how much they had changed an toned down after varnishing
@@IrishJayc63 Varnsihing models at the end actually helps the paint job. It tends to bring together the blends and makes transition and edge highlights look a lot smoother. I always find models always look better after a varnish. The airbrush is perfect for varnishing as it gives a nice even finish. I tend to airbrush - then give models a gloss varnish. Then I do transfers and Oil wash. Sometimes a mid matt varnish, then paint brush work, then end with varnishing with a Satin sort of finish. In fact, the main reason I got the airbrush was for varnishing, because spraying on rattle can varnish is fraught with issues. Well...unless your using that Japanese stuff - Mr Hobby. That stuff is amazing.
Thanks man, yeah pretty happy with it. 2 things I would change. 1 - The transfer on his....armour around his crotch or whatever was supposed to be on his other leg. I must of been tired when doing it. 2 - The cognis signum green screen isn't great. I might lighten it back up again/give it a green glow or seomthing. Otherwise he fit's the army very well :-)
@Xarl-VIII haha that egghead. Yeah not a fan of the official figure, and it's resin yuk. Also wanted him to go with one of my heavy squads which are in mkiii armour.
Solid army. I have a Raven Guard force, but I've only painted 5 Cataphractii, 2 Dreadnoughts, a Rhino and a half dozen legionaries. I hope to get a Deredeo, some Assault marines and some jetbikes, but am too broke at the moment. It would be nice to see a clip of this army where you lingered on the different units, rather than zooming the camera around the whole time.
I've taken short individual videos of each unit, there is a playlist on my page. So I play against Ravens quite a bit. Their snipers are great due to Infravisor night fighting goodness. Deliverers are tough due to battle hardened and deep strikes, and you absolutely need some ravens talons.
Worth noting this is about 18mth of painting for me. I also have a huge old-school 40k force which I use now in Horus Heresy. So Rhinos, Preds, extra bodies, jump pack guys, veterans, etc etc etc. A warhound...Baneblade shadowsword etc etc
@@padanfain7466 I don't play the game, I just like to paint the miniatures. I couldn't afford to build a functional army. My Raven Guard are the closest thing I have to one. I mostly buy Terminators (Wolfguard, Deathwing, Chaos, Heresy), but also have some Primaris marines, Eldar, a few Sororitas, and some fantasy vampires and skeletons. At the moment I'm assembling a Chaos Terminator with a Chainaxe. I'm making a squad with the Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour as the squad leader. I'm thinking of giving them dark red armour with gold trim, and certain parts like the shoulder pauldrons would be black with silver trim. I usually prefer to invent my own chapters, but that's not really an option in Heresy. These Chaos guys might be from the Emperors Children successors 'Advocates of Perversity'.
@drewlovelyhell4892 I want some sisters/sorority too. They would look cool amongst the sea of Ultras. You can kinda do what you like in Heresy too with regards colouration/legion style. Chaos terminators? Is it so easy for you to turn from The Emperors light? Haha. I fancy doing some chaos. Opportunity to have some fun painting. Just give me 5 years to finish the Ultras...lol
Thank you brother. The Plasma guy I was especially happy with. Just finished the 2 Land Raiders (quick video is up on here). Spartan looks decent. Let me know what you think.
Hahaha, well...I didn't.. I just stuck his arm into the pole. Who's going to notice? Getting the metal banner off was incredibly difficult. For stability the banner is drilled through the bottom base and I always weight bases with copper coins (2p piece).
Thanks man. Mainly Vallejo, though honestly these days its a rag tag collection of all sorts, some GW, mainly Vallejo, some AK interactive. I've just got an airbrush after 20 years in the hobby lol. This is the first squad I did using it to put the armour down.
