Welcome to my channel! I'm an educator from New Zealand. I have always had a love for ballet, and have been studying it since my youth.
Understanding and appreciating ballet can pose a challenge, particularly for those not immersed in its cultural context from a young age, or without exposure to performances, or personal study. Unlike other forms of theatre, ballet lacks dialogue, relying instead on the music and physical movements of its performers to convey meaning. Therefore, familiarising oneself with the narrative of a ballet before or after attending a performance can enhance one's enjoyment of it.
From the stories behind iconic ballets like Swan Lake and Giselle, I try provide a simple to understand look at the art form. I hope this channel is useful for ballet enthusiasts, beginners, students and anyone interested in the performing arts.
If you have any questions or want to request a video idea, leave a comment on any of my videos :)
Thank you. My daughter is studying ballet at college and hoping to go on to work in the industry. She is about to perform in Giselle with the EYB, and I am clueless. At least I will understand the storyline when I go and see her performance
I just found your channel and you explain the stories so well! There's so many people that don't understand the stories behind the ballets and miss out on them. I can usually figure it out myself, but its nice to have it all explained so well! I see you haven't done a video on nutcracker yet, please consider it!
Morate uzeti u obzir vrijeme u kojem je djelo nastalo;to je bilo doba romantizma kad su literatura i glazba bile prepune tragičnih likova.Pa završila sam srednju baletnu školu i vrlo dobro prostudirala odnos on i ona.
In the original of Ceasar Pugni, (the composer) ending, Esmeralda dies by getting hanged by Frollo, and Quasimodo kills Frollo, but after killing him, he saves Esmeralda late, but he dies because of starvation. It's another veration of the story.
I've never seen swan lake the ballet. But i loved the swan princess as a child and still do. I love love love odettes name! I vaguely knew what swan lake was about, but when you Said odettes name at the beginning i put two and two together and realized the movie is based on the ballet. I did ballet for several years and my mother took me to see a few, most notably the nutcracker. But i really can't believe i never put them together until now!
Barbie was when I first learned it was a ballet😂 the swan princess was just a awesome movie to me, but barbie was advertised as "based on the ballet" barbie introduced me to alot of things that I likely would never have been interested in otherwise.
Interesting version here used with a kind of younger Madge. Thank you for explaining it with this summary, using also a version which I wanted to see more from. It's kind of amazing as this was the very first ballet as actual ballet. Previously, I was not so much in like with the tragic tale, but meanwhile, I try to see it as a more complex story with so amazing characters. Fidelity vs betrayal, illusions vs real possible life, how James tries to bond the airy spirit to him and loses her with this forever, seeing this ballet also from Effi's or Madges' view. I hope to see it also live someday!
