I will soon turn 77 years old, and I have this very faint memory of seeing this live on American Bandstand as a teenager. Les's slide with his thumb on the upper side of the fingerboard (last couple of seconds before the end) just triggered that memory.
Gibson has turned into such a multi headed monster. The inspiration and legacy from Les is being shadowed by severe capitalism and poor ethics at Gibson Les is music. Music has been turning into a self glorifying wank fest. I am only starting to see how these attention hungry people have turned musicians into birthday party clowns for hire.
I'm from Detroit (blow the reveille)! Remember The _'KeithBurst'_ Les Paul? (w/Bigsby Tremolo) The one Ian Stewart sold to (a very young) Mick Taylor? (w/o Keef's knowledge) Keith Richard was the *first* 'famous' guitarist to play a LP in public! YEARS before Clapton/Bloomfield/Green/etc ) 'First' if you don't count Freddie King. (or, of course, Les Paul himself) Of course, when Taylor joined The Stones; The Bigsby 'KeithBurst' came back home! There's a picture of KR playing it at MSG in Nov. '69. It's entirely possible he never even knew it was gone! (Ha!) **ROX ON!** - Dave B
Hard to believe he was such a great guitarist, I just thought he wired up an old acoustic guitar and that was what he was famous for. How is he not more famous. Where would we be without his inventions.
Are all the people commenting really that ignorant of the techniques he employed to produce his groundbreaking music. 🙄 Not to mention the fact the Gibson made the original Les Paul electric Guitar which is still in production. Also there are more stringed instruments in the style and with LP in the name thane any other style of stringed instrument.
My new-found great-grandmother reminds me of Mary Ford, in pictures. I was robbed of meeting her, and I'm not absolutely sure that I'll ever forgive that.
