Agreed that investments today to meet future goals. Amtrak's Gateway project should include NJ Transit passenger goals which state 36% of riders want access to Grand Central. See the Access to the Region's Core study for further details.
Thank you so much for uploading these webinars! They are super helpful and I'm glad I can get the info if I can't actively attend the webinar as its happening. One thing that could help with the quality of the upload is minimizing the view of the attendees when recording, they do take up quite a bit of the screen and we can't see the speaker because they are so small among the many squares.
Those crosswalks look very dangerous. Where humans interact with heavy machinery, injuries and deaths are usually eliminated by design and technology. For example, mechanisms that stop machinery automatically when humans try to touch moving parts. It's the same with our roads - we can only achieve zero deaths through safe systems, such as clear visible red lights that stop all traffic when pedestrians cross. Because even if we are paying attention, incidents can still happen if our infrastructure isn't safe for vulnerable road users. Do you have a program for achieving safe and frequent crosswalks by design and infrastructure? What is the budget for that?
Street Smart is only a public education campaign. It does not make infrastructure improvements. The NJTPA does make pedestrian safety improvements through its Local Safety Program (njtpa.org/localsafety). Aside from that, much of our funding is for planning work, which prepares projects for eventual construction with federal funds.
Thanks. What are your assessed yield stats for % of drivers yielding to pedestrians when turning right or left? Also what % of pedestrian incidents are caused by traffic turning left or right over crosswalks while the pedestrian has a legal right to walk?
This video could make a good point however it chooses not to, not only does everyone understand (or at lease should) that the faster you go the further ahead you need to look. Nobody in their right mind looks only 5 feet in front of their car.
Great Job! Thanks for the marketing, and keep up the good work. Wish the video was longer and slower. Such a lot of good images and thoughts flash by in such a compact timeframe. Is a Super Bowl ad in the future?
When I was out of service I tried to report a injury to the FRA. There a joke. A year later they told me to call OSHA. I called Deacon Belke instead. His Road Master told me somebody needed to talk to someone. Figured it would have been in his interest to review a few things. I figured not paying an employee one week could be construed as harassment under the FRSA. He told me to go for it. OSHA called me after 6 of those LPG cars were derailed in Corning.
Catrl Belke, aka Deacon Belke is a liar. The LA&L had 9 incidents of run through switches. Speeding, recorded on the CSX motion detector circuited crossing, right along the adjacent Amtrak Line. 40-50 percent over TT speed onto a C circuit. The track was also out of service for wide gauge. Carl's protégé Superintendent wise proposed putting portable de-rails on the P line to protect a tie gang. No brakes on RMM's FRA214 out of service violations. They fired me for knowing what I was doing.
