Hello Anne! Thank you so much! We had a great weekend! I am lining up a podcast catch-up marathon so I will looking forward to watching all your recent episodes! X
You have a home RU-vid channel? Would you share the name please? Home renovations are quite literally a pain. Our whole house needs renovating but we can only do one thing at a time.
Wonderful to spend some time with you again, Lauren. Really enjoy this weekly update. Thank you. I have been sewing in ends on my Summer's evening sweater while watching:) Hope you have a great weekend!!
Question regarding your sizing up to the 6th size to get the small size due to gauge. How do you figure out how much yarn you'll use? Same as the sixth size?
It's a really good question! In theory it should be similar to the amount used for the 6th, but then I am using DK weight yarn which will have more meters per 50g so that will counter act it slightly
Sorry, I meant to ask, are you using natural dyes for your yarn, or something else? I’m just so impressed with the beautiful range of colours you have 💕
Hi Anne Oh thank you so much, honestly that means the world - I was so upset after technical difficulties yesterday and you made my day! These are acid dyed but I reuse water and blend my dyes to get these colours :)
Hi Lauren, I’m watching this episode in absolute awe of how much you manage to do!! House Reno, knitting, designing, and now yarn dying 😅 Yikes! 😂 Your yarn is so gorgeous too. I just placed an order as I couldn’t resist those colours! Best of luck with this latest new venture of yours, much love xx
Thank you for another great podcast. I’m currently working on the Andrea Mowry Pink Velvet sweater pattern. I’m using Qing Fibre melted suri in porcelain and Camijoknits Mesiya base single ply in scallop shell. It’s a really lovely combination and I’m loving it ❤️
I love love love the colour of your sweater on you! What an interesting construction of your new design :) I'm feeling a lot of energy for knitting socks at the moment and so I've already started on some christmas presents 🤣
I use toilet rolls as bobbins as well haha. They go right on some dowels that I just lay in the handles of a bin when I ply. It's so silly but it works so well! I love your attitude of no pressure, but still plug away. I think I'll try that this week!
Hi Liz So pleased it's not just me! Ooh I haven't tried the trick with the bin lid - I will upgrade my process 😉 So pleased that inspired you - go for it! Honestly I have had a much greater sense of achievement from doing it this way x
Your Gallant sweater looks so good. The color is just perfect for you! So excited to see more of your summertop design as it progress. Thank you for the sweet, kind words about me and my podcast. Warms my heart! And thank you for another great knitting update! Looking forward to the next allready!
@@work.knits. I am good, but very tired after a long day. It's Norways national day today. So it's been parades, lots of walking and too much cake and icecream. Only waiting to see the fireworks from our porch and it's nightime for me😅 I hope you are well and are having a wonderful weekend!
I like having you here more often and you're right... it's hard to watch an hour long podcast when all I want to do is get out in my gardens while the sun is shining!
Wonderful to see you again, Lauren. So sorry you are struggeling with a cold once again. Hope you feel better soon! I really love your short sleeve version of your summer evening sweater. And your new sock design looks amazing! I have just come home from a trip to Bulgaria. So it was perfect to just "breath" a little after travelling and knit together with you! I hope you get a beautiful May! Hugs from Norway :)
Just found great yarns at good prices in Tokyo at Okadaya Shinjuku, which is centrally located. They had a wonderful selection, including several Japanese made yarns. There’s currently also a pop-up with a Japanese lace weight cashmere on cones. Also a good selection of European brands. Lots of needles and other supplies, too. Don’t be fooled by the entrance, which looks like a beauty shop. The knitting supplies are on the 5th floor.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am czech but I live in the UK, and I haven't been home for ages. It has changed so much! I remember a lot of acrylic back in the days... I think I need to plan a trip to Prague.
Hi Lauren, when I’m really overwhelmed with my pattern choices and can’t decide what I actually want or need in my wardrobe next I look at what weight and needle sizes my current wip’s are instead. So if I’ve got DK’s and worsted on the go I’ll look at my lightweight, small needle options just to keep some variety and try to avoid repetitive hand strains. I’ve also found that the projects I’m happy to gauge swatch for are generally the ones I should do next, I definitely lean towards picking the yarn I want to work with as well. The other thing I consider outside of Xmas gift season is to have one large, (sweater etc) one medium, (shawl or tee) and one or two small projects (socks, mitts or baby clothes etc). I’m knitting a sweater for my husband at the moment and I’d class it as a large blanket type project 😅 urrggghh it’s no fun at all but that’s what the side hustle small projects are for, to keep me going. I always think ultimately you should go with your heart and cast on what you really fancy knitting not what you think you should be knitting 😊
So good to see you, Lauren. What a great start to the weekend watching an update from you. As always beautiful things on the needles. I love the sweater you are wearing. Really like the sleeves! I am very much in the spring mindset at the moment so I would cast on the rock it tee or the Faye. Looking forward to see what you choose to cast on. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
Yeh I have been watching you for some time. I was wondering why don't you put this type of video being short as a finished object section at the front of a podcast and then discuss your plans and WIPs for the next quarter. I like that you are not 'same old' and have your own niche which is difficult. I wanted to know how you are doing with your patterns, as I am about to release my first pattern which is very scary.
Hello Ah yes I have thought about it a few times, I've just been going for a more minimal editing style which doesn't really allow for these but maybe I should do it more often. That's very sweet of you to say I have a niche - I've never quite been able to pin point what I do differently and so I have always worried it feels a bit same old, so I really value your feedback! Good luck with your first pattern! Don't stress, it is all a learning curve!
Thank you for the review of center city Edinburgh yarn shops. I'll be visiting for the first time in May and will only be there for a day and a half but definitely want to visit at least one while I'm there and get some local Scottish yarn.
Was about to say there are definitely yarn stores in Osaka…with one big one right in the centre near takashimiya…I stumbled across that store when i was lost 😅 Walnut Tokyo and Walnut Kyoto are the yarn stores of the Amirisu magazine…i went to the Tokyo store and it is definitely not as big as the kyoto (which i am planning on going to on my next japan trip). When i was there, i was lucky that i had the chance to chat to a lady who had lived in australia (she saw my QANTAS credit card 😅). The store is just like the Kyoto one with a whole stack of hand dyed yarn…and i agree…i could spend HOURS in there. There’s also a really good 7 storey yarn/craft store in Shinjuku called Okadaya…it has an entire floor of yarn, books and knitting/crochet related material. Definitely worth checking out.
Oh I'm so gutted I didn't find these! That one in Shinjuku sounds like exactly what I was looking for! Like you, I need to plan another trip there. I hope you have an amazing time x
Hi Christine! Thank you so much for joining me for this episode and letting me know what you are knitting on. I'd love to have a proper blanket on my needles right now!
No yarn shops in Osaka? There's an awesome one right in the middle of the tourist area of Namba, right next to Takashimaya Department store. They also do tax free. There's also Yuzawaya littered all over place. I did a quick google search and managed to visit 5 yarn stores while I was there.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm going to Japan in a month for my honeymoon and it's been difficult to narrow down my decisions for yarn stores to visit but this helps so much!! <3
How exciting! The yarns are pretty, and wow the price!😮 The shops are cool. I could spend the day there too. My sister went to Greece last year and brought me back some cotton yarn (58 m) in blues. I'm thinking a gradient top for the Summer, and loose stitches, broomstick or mesh or something to make the most of the skeins. Thanks for sharing your adventures.😊
I live in Prague and just came across this video. I have not yet made it to Woolpoint but have wanted to visit for a while. Yarnqueen is closer to me so that's where I normally go, and I love it there. Nice to now have seen Woolpoint in this video, it inspired me to actually make it to that side of the city soon :) I hope you enjoyed your days here!
Thank you for keeping me company while I did an I-cord bind off on a shawl. Really love your summer's evening sweater. Looks like a fun construction. Look forward to seeing your video from Japan. Hope you have a good weekend and that you get well soon!!
I can totally relate to finding a podcast to watch whilst doing i-cords! I am due a bumper podcast catch up today or tomorrow because I haven't watched any in a good month or so which makes me very sad Thanks as always for stopping by Anne, and for your well wishes x
