On this channel I upload videos on various topic of linguistics. In these videos, I try and give explanations and examples that are easy to follow. For this very reason, I prefer to keep my content free from lengthy considerations and dense academic language.
So far, I've been picking topics from my own knowledge and general interest, but I'd be happy to make viewer-requested content if I know enough about it.
I'd be happy about any kind of feedback I get from you, so don't hesitate. Also, you might notice I'm not a native speaker of English, so if you have some tips on how to improve my English, please tell me!
great content very nice way of bringing out the topic! I only wish there was no background music, then it would be more inclusive for a more dive3rse audience :)
👍. Mr. R phoneme is the phoney one. Would you please kindly help to explain the missing "q" in phonetics and only "qu~" as letters in dictionary. allophone: any of the various phonetic realizations of a phoneme in a language, which do not contribute to distinctions of meaning. For example, in English an aspirated p (as in pin) and unaspirated p (as in spin) are allophones of the phoneme /p/, whereas in ancient Greek the distinction was phonemic.
I think what you explained is different variants of a phoneme, not allophones of it. For it to be allophones there'd have to be some kind of complementary distribution rules.
I have a questions if anyone could help me to solve them Q/ Name the conversational implicature in each of the following 1- A and B are sitting in the room A asks B A : Do you watching this? B response by changing the channel on the TV 2-A where can I get fresh fruit here? B there is a daily market in the square 3-A Do you have a rolling pin I can borrow? B sorry I don’t bake 4- what quality does Jack have for this position? B Jack has a nice hand writing
Hi! I'm having a semantic exam tomorrow and currently revised my knowledge by watching from RU-vid video. So from your questions, I can conclude, 1) B shows the Maxim of Manner where his response to A shows a manner by changing the channel on the TV. 2) B follows the Maxim of Relevance. B has answered the questions given by A. 3) B has not followed/flouts the Maxim of Relevance. +> B said he don't bake +> If B said he don't bake it means he doesnt response to what A is asking for. 4) B has not followed/violates the Maxim of Relevance. +> B is not answering to A question +> When B said Jack has a nice handwriting, he doesnt response to A questions. I'm sorry im not sure also. I hope someone can correct me as I'm also curious for an exact answer.
B is (particular implicature) Flouting the maxim of Quality (the implied meaning is achieved). He is having banter (expresses a negative sentiment and implies a positive). It could be said, 'contradiction to the reality'. correct me, Please!
my linguistics professor sucks at his job so i opted to watch this video instead of my 1.5 hours long lecture and im 100% sure i learned more than i would, thanks
I'm now working on studying for the Japanese language teaching competency test. Now I actually understand what Cooperative Principle means. Very helpful.
