At the beginning of the video, you said you may disconnect the battery when you do the rear brakes but then you didn't follow up. I am assuming that you decided not to. Is there any reason why?
Really enjoying these videos centering around your heat exchanger problem the fix and the update! Thank you so much. Would you tell us how many miles it has been in these 5 months that you have and using the fix? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 This is the issue that is troubling to me in terms of upgrading from my second gen to a fourth gen. I really would like to just cap things off preventatively so that I don't have this happen while on the road as I am dependent on the Prius for long trips.
I would just do this procedure as well. But some say the dealership may have a TSB on this problem. The car is running great I will make another video showing the heater works just fine with a thermometer
I use a Form a funnel and shape it like a reverse KISS S under the filter over the cross member into an oil pan. Seems to me its a little tighter on a 2nd Gen Ridgelines. Don't use the Lucas and don't reset the MM . Just keep changing the oil at 50% and 0% . Then reset the MM so you don't miss other maintenance codes. Did that on a 1st Gen RL for 180k on conventional oil.
I do my oil changes like clock work for my transmission, differential and torque converter. My record is my videos so I don’t forget. Lol. But a funnel sounds less messy for sure!
I’m looking into a 2017 advance and was wondering about charging in the winter time. I don’t have a garage so it will be out in the open would I need some sort of cover over the charging port and also anything I should keep my eye out it has about 56k at the one I’m looking at.
I charge mine outside most of the time. You don’t need any cover. The only thing that’s annoying is that it does not store the TPMS codes so once you remove the regular summer tires. And you put on the winter tires if you’re not usinga TPMS Sensor it has to be reset at the dealership or a tire shop when you swap back from winter to summer. So for example, for my Honda or Subaru, I will put on the winter tires and then I drive with the TPMS lights on with snow tires. In the summertime springtime when I put back the regular tires, the TPMS lights go back off automatically that’s not the case for the Prius. You have to go to a tire shop to get it reset sometimes they’ll do it for free.
I'm sitting in my 2023 Honda Ridgeline while looking at your video. I had rotor problems too. I let the dealership handle it. But if it's bad from the factory, I may be able to get that money back.. I think I'll do the bug guard and good call on the window guards. Please post which ones you get. My only gripe with my truck is, I paid the up charge for the Black edition and there's only one black edition badge on the truck. So I put on a few of my own, tastefully of course. When you look at my truck you'll think, I didn't know Black editions came with those badges? 😂😂😂 Cool video, can’t wait to see what you do next.
I figured if they change my rotors problem would come back again. So I am buying different ones and installing Them next year. Will keep you posted. I hope the truck works out great for you! And yeah a BE badge in the back would be cool too.
I understand the reason for doing this but many aren't aware that there is a "Technical Service Bulletin" on the heat exchanger/cat. Toyota had to replace mine for free, of course after I argued with them and brought the printout as proof. Then they wanted to charge me for the price of the part, and I said NO, you need to replace everything for free!. Well they did and it took 3 months but they also gave me a new Prius to drive. I don't remember the limit on miles but I know it was covered for 8 years, so I just got it in time on my 2016. It's worth looking into for people.
I don't think I would put that thick stuff in there, unless I lived in AZ. or some other super hot place. My wife has a 2018 Pilot with 140K miles. I use full synthetic every 5K without fail.....purrs like a kitten.
What a bad design oil dumps on control arm from oil filter....Not a fan of quick release oil valves. I will stick with an oil bolt plug. I do my 22' Si oil at 5K also with Valvoline, can't go wrong. The only difference is that I don't reset the oil life until the maintenance minder tells me it's at 15% so that I see any other items that need to be done such as transmission fluid, engine or cabin air filters.
I agree on the filter design. I also got the wrong oil valve. There is one that doesn’t stick out as much. If I go off road I would just keep a regular plug too. I do my transmission torque converter and rear axle fluids like clockwork every 30k . I either document it or I just look at my old RU-vid videos to see when I did them lol. How do you like your civic SI?
Yeah on my 07' Si the filter is at the back of the engine block right above the CV Boot. There is a special oil deflection tool that you can put in once you take off the right tire and it makes the crappy experience much better without a mess. You should check if Honda Snap On tools make an oil deflection tool (filter) also for your vehicle?
We have 120k on our 2017 Trim 2 and love it. I just bought a 2024 Prius LE to drive to buy some more time with our 2006 GMC Envoy by using it as a third vehicle. The DW has averaged 52.2mpg with it. I tend to have a heavy foot. So she gets the credit. I'm really liking the 2024 so far. It is lower and a bit harder to get into. Yes please on the windshield wipers. Using off/brand refills is a pain!
Hi, my 2018 Forester is currently only 50K miles, it's vibrating on highway speed, but not all the time, only certain highway, and when it's vibrating, if I turn the steering a little bit, the vibrate would stop or reduce or get worse. Did you have the same symptoms? Dealer said I'd need new bushings for the lower arm control, but I'm thinking to change the whole lower arm control plus the ball joint. Thank you.
Yeah, all you need is exactly what I showed in the video the lower control arm. I wish they would do a better job of building a better quality item. This problem is just way too common. Be careful with the dealerships they’ll always overcharge you and add extra things. It’s ridiculously expensive.
You must drive a lot, 35k miles a year? My 19 years old Sequoia only has 101k miles. My 3 months old Ridgeline Trailsport has a little more than 1k miles.
With the crazy car situation going on in the world. This is the one to get it looks beautiful in blue magnetism and it looks beautiful in red. Doesn’t matter which trim level you get you will love this vehicle. Don’t listen to people complaining about the large screen you get used to it it’s actually easy to use.
I bought a 2017 non prime a someone bypassed it under the car i found it the other day when i turned my defrost on a no heat. Should the heat be working even tho they did it under the car. If i bypass it under the hood like you did will my heat work?
I bought a 2017 and someone bypassed the exchange under the car by the exhaust and the heat is not hot. If I bypass it by the motor like you did while I get heat.
I bought my 2017 Prius Prime Premium from Carmax in 2021 for $21,900. It had 12,594 miles on it but was only averaging 42.5 mpg and now it has 49,954 miles and is averaging 87.4 mpg (I never reset the computer). I didn't know at the time that the car was a repo but I figured it out. I'm sure that the salesman didn't know either as the car was trucked in from Bakersfield, CA and I live in Las Vegas. I don't have the original key fobs as one is for a regular Prius and the other one is for a CHR. I also noticed that it didn't have the charging cable and I said that I wouldn't buy the car without one. They gave me an aftermarket charging cable but it has worked flawlessly. The car does have a short in it somewhere because the 11.6" screen goes blank about once every two months but it immediately boots back up. All in all I'm very happy with the car and I feel that I got a good deal from Carmax. I wish that I had found your channel sooner but better late than never!
@@James-u9z2v well if you drive a lot of freeway miles it’s worth it for sure. It should work a little bit better in the Prius than it did in my Honda because the Prius is a small vehicle. No complaints on the comma 3X There were some glitches in the comma 2, but it still worked. I just had to reset it a few times.
@@DIYBIGMAN i have : coolant leack , white smoke , no heat , no coolant before the catalitic convertor so no egr problem, they showed me a small amount of cooler in the catalitic convertor so i guess this is the problem
My next project is add rear climate control, from 17 to 23 the Ridgeline doesn’t come with it, I took the rear climate control off a 22 Honda Pilot and the difference is adding 5 wires from the rear to the front climate control, I’m doing my research, hoping to do a video on Adding Mirrors and Rear Climate control
I’m doing power folding Mirrors on my 23 Ridgeline , I took the Mirrors off 22 pilot and switch, the difference is I have to add 2 wires, from the Mirror to the switch on both sides, it was easy
If you turn on the left or the right blinker, sometimes it will move to the lane by itself. I think it depends on the vehicle. It will not take exits by itself. It’s like lane keep assist on steroids.
Yes, in Oregon. They have emissions testing, but it does not throw off any check codes and it’s not visible from underneath. They would have to look really hard to see. I did a bypass and all it is is just switching the pipes and the flow of the coolant. It does not affect the emissions of the vehicle if anything, saving the catalytic converter from failing.
Great video! Can you tell me if doing this will cause an error code, or impact emissions testing? I live in AZ, and we have to get emissions testing done when we renew tags.
@@Jackiewicz64 I received no codes when the white smoke was coming and after I did the procedure, I still had no codes so I don’t think it affected anything other than bypassing the catalytic converter that was my situation
Too bad theres no torque mod for the Ridgeline. I have a honda clarity with 3x toeque mod. It drastically improved the driving experience. Also glad that sunnypilot and frogpilot recently added support for the Clarity.
Thoughts on buying a 2017 Prius two this year with 40,000 miles? Is buying an older hybrid worth while having low miles but is 7 years old? Just wondering from a hybrid battery lifecycle standpoint
If The vehicle is in great condition no accidents and it suits your lifestyle and needs. I wouldn’t hesitate on buying a used Prius. You could always do a vehicle inspection and take it to the dealership to have them look at it for you don’t know anything about cars and they would look at it for you for about 100 bucks. Or so.
@@DIYBIGMAN looking for my brother, I babied his 2013 Dodge avenger all the way to 160,000 miles and he unfortunately totaled it running over massive debris on the highway. Car was constantly having cooling, transmission, and oil leaks, though I had a feeling it could have kept going. Looking for more of a car that won’t give him a headache for a long time that costs under $20,000 on a tight budget. Debating on this or a 2018+ Toyota Camry
2017 Camry I heard were one of the best years as well. My first choice is always going to be a Toyota. The only reason why I got the Honda Ridgeline was because I can make it self driving. Plus this engine has a lot of refinement and liability.
