5:46... Where to start? The Randy Quaid character in ID4 analogy only appears to be correct because that is the way the powers that be in USSF would want it. Wynalda was the greatest threat to the status quo USSF has ever seen. Eric Wynalda's picture should be placed in the dictionary beside the definition of a "team-player." Ironically, he has tried to crash his aircraft into the mothership twice already and was twice thwarted. Once before the '98 World Cup when he pleaded to keep the "Captain for Life" in the squad even after Harkes slept with Wynalda's wife. And again in 2017, after the greatest failure in the history of sport, he tried to save us by running for President of USSF with intentions of implementing Article 9 of the FIFA statutes in this country. Thereby completely changing the entire landscape of how soccer would be run in this country, from YMCA to the top flight. As long as we're riffing off of 90's blockbusters, in the words of paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant, "try to show a little respect."
I don't really follow or pay attention to twitter, but when I want an opinion on all things US Soccer, I sure as hell ain't going to some random dime a dozen dude like Herculez Gomez over US legends from the 1990/94 world cups. Lots of dudes played MLS. Lots. But the opinions of the US soccer OG's carries far more weight.
@@tw5139 I guess you're half a retard. I said "US" legends. Every country has its own hall of fame. Doesn't mean players from those countries would be considered "world" hall of famers. Now gtf off my computer screen you mutt.
Herc could have addressed the racism more directly for all of us who don't have the power to do it. Be more direct like world football. And I appreciate everything you already do as an analyst and person.
brooklyn? do you play at pier 5 on the soccer/football fields? i tried it once during league games but was a poor goalkeeper. i usually play beach on pier 6 though...
that you need to be an active participant in a certain sport, activity is BS. That would mean that no ones opinion would matter in most if not all news.
Correct. observational skills and valuable ideas/perspectives are not exclusively players or former players. In fact being former players can sometimes hinder a view with biases, etc.
Ding dong the witch is dead, hopefully we can get an upgrade in time to make a difference for the WC. Right now I don't have a lot of hope. Good thing I'm a Minnesota sports fan and don't have any hope to begin with.
He was ruining US Soccer by never having the team play up to their potential. Players doing great at their clubs come in look clueless and that was because of Gregg's system he forced these guys to play. He controls everything on and off the pitch. The players never had the freedom to go get a goal. He stated multiple times the System is more important than scoring goals. That outrage was for a reason and not just because some Twitter fans just wanted to hate something. Those fans want to be happy and hyped to watch this team play. It was obvious Gregg wasn't going to get it done. Hence him being fired.
So much time was wasted during Berhalter's time as manager. The first few years he wasted time by continuing to call in his MLS favorites. It wasn't until after the world cup when he finally stopped calling in players like Roldan and Ferreira. And these last couple years he has struggled to even get wins against poor central American countries.
I turned on Berhalter during Qualifiers when he kept making roster, subs, and tactical mistakes. Playing for draws all the time was pissing me off. I snapped when Berhalter yanked Pepi out of the game around the 60 minutes for scoring a second goal vs Jamaica. And yes Gregg was pissed about it because he didn't play within the system(Gregg's words). Pepi didn't start the next match vs Panama and we lost 0-1. Pepi eventually was left off the WC roster. We barely qualified with a Goal difference. I didn't see any improvement outside of better camp rosters since then. Gregg was over his head and it's been obvious the whole time.
True. I'd forgotten about that. Not only was Berhalter a mediocre manager, but it also seemed like he was very stubborn and selfish, and didn't like when players got credit for winning games. I think there was a moment in the 22 world cup, in the final minute of the England game, where the USA were doing a free kick, that Berhalter told the player to kick it out of bounds on purpose. I think Berhalter was afraid that England would get the ball and counter on us and maybe score. At that point I lost all respect for Berhalter. He was such a coward.
Let's not forget the media gaslit the fan base when we started to see signs that this guy was not it. I'm old enough to remember Ricardo Pepi saving that mans job and qualifying this team for Qatar when we were floundering in qualifications. playing Ferreira against Aké, VVD and Timber in WC and thinking it was gonna work was the last straw for me! Great stuff as usual fellas.
It's silly to talk about winning % and PPG without the huge asterisk about nations league replacing more than half of our friendlies. A potted plant could achieve that winning % vs. the likes of Grenada and Cuba which have replaced friendlies vs. Italy or the Netherlands. Not to mention that Mexico has its worst team since the 1970's or early 80's,. There were good moments under Berhalter, but pretending we can objectively say he is better than prior managers based on winning % is frankly clueless.
Turning Point: Copa America "grouped" failure for USMNT vs. Team Canada getting to Copa America semi's with a manager (Jesse Marsch) who was considered inferior and not a serious choice to replace Gregg after WC 2022. Several of us American soccer newbies found that unacceptable.
After seeing this I immediately subscribed to CO+...looking forward to pulling this up on my commute tomorrow morning & listening again *ad free* in all its glory. But I hope that if you are doing Manscaped reads, that those will still be part of the CO+ pods cuz those are always dope.
@@zeropoint216 I think he's just stressed because Joe Biden is crapping his pants everyday and JJ is not ready for another 4 years of the evil orange man
France and England have so many quality players, but their managers are too pragmatic. It worked for France. They won titles with that style. But it seems that it's getting overdone. It seems that they're so confident that it's always gonna work out that it looks like they're overdoing it a bit. Southgate is just not a good enough manager for these players. He's reactive, not proactive. He puts out the same starting lineup and makes the same subs. Unless he's down and just says "f it," I'm gonna throw attackers and see who bails me out. Pragmatism usually wins international football tournaments, but it's when to know to change a lineup, dapt to the situation, and be proactive instead of waiting until you're losing, to make a change. Is basically playing not to lose and hoping to get bailed out by a moment of brilliance by one of your stars. I think France should thank Deschamps for his job, but they need a fresh voice and ideas in that team. And whichever way England finishes, they should also let Southgate go, thank him for the success he's brought, and get someone proactive that would let these players play a bit more free.
I think it probably is time for france to have a new manager but I really get confused at how people watch them play and think that they're being held back by deschamps. That squad definitely has a lot of big names and talented players but I whenever they have an underwhelming showing I come away more disappointed in the individual performances rather than their style of play/setup. Their style of play suit their best players for the most part but players like dembele and griezmann often disappoint me with their decision making (dembele) and their lack of ambition when in possession (griezmann). France could probably press a little more especially against the bigger countries but why take that risk when more often than not you don't have to.
Well done Herc! I've been producing a podcast for 19 years (yes 19!) and every so often I get someone who throws out a "you never played for the National team so why should we listen to you?" or some BS like that! I tell them all to F off.
They wanna charge $100 and more for tickets and then put crap product on the field? And blame the fans? Ussf is pushing mediocrity and charging a premium while gaslighting the golden generation of what?
I will give you the same recommendation I am giving to all the talking Pundits/heads show: GET THE MLS OWNERS TO PONY UP $100,000 per franchise to pay for a top quality manager and bypass the sponsors and the Federations financial restrictions. THIS IS SUCH A SIMPLE SOLUTION I CANNOT BELIEVE NO ONE HAS COME UP WITH IT! If 2026 is a failure they, as owners, are permanently fixed as the 5th biggest league fighting the WNBA for a peanuts TV contact for the foreseeable future if not forever! I am disappointed in your approach to to this whole GB fiasco. Been following religiously since 1989 watching the T&T miracle with my 2 Italian & Argentinian roommates . I will be dead before the USA hosts another WC. 2026 is it. USE YOUR PLATFORMS TO STOP COMPLAINING AND GIVE ACTUAL IDEAS!!!
Herc's a player I have a lot of respect for. Nothing came easy for him as a player. He had to prove himself in Mexico before getting good shots in MLS and the US side. I definitely appreciate his perspective because it's unique and he's tough.
He actually started as a teenager for LA before he went to Mexico. Most of his managers didn't know what they had, especially Lalas and Bradley. I don't recall Herc ever leaving a side for any reason and not being replaced by somebody who was even half the player.
Eric Wynalda is an absolute piece of garbage! His story on the CBS interview about breaking his teammates nose because he was mad at the coach just shows that utter trash of a person he is.
