"Come And Get It" wasn't everyone's cup of tea as a hit. It featured in the movie 'The Magic Christian' starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, which was based on Terry Southern's book. The theme of this gives more context to the lyrics, about a rich man who decides to give all his money away. Paul gives the impression he had Badfinger in mind for his idea, but, was he writing to order for the film ? Maybe that's why he couldn't sleep ?
Esta bellísima rola abre el LP "Let it be", nunca olvidaré el profundo impacto y hechizamiento que me causó al poner el disco, regalo inolvidable de una tía también inolvidable.
When you consider the pedestal these kids were thrust up onto and the pressure they were under to produce it's amazing how none of them overdosed and died. Still loved and I'm still watching videos on how to play Till There Was You on guitar. Great performing group of young friends who made very very good.
It’s the lyric “you and I have memories, longer than the road that stretches out ahead” that makes me think of the John/Paul relationship because it says that our past together is longer than our future together. In regard to the John/Paul relationship in January 1969, that is mathematically accurate.
Bingo. Furthermore, “You and me riding nowhere, spending someone’s hard earned pay” likely describes the rather unplanned trip John and Paul went on after John had received £100 as a birthday gift from his uncle who was a dentist in Edinburgh. “You and me chasing paper, getting nowhere” likely describes the business problems that were going on in the band. “Burning matches, lifting latches” is Scouse slang for smoking and going on a bar round, which sounds like their time as young men in Liverpool. I firmly believe that Paul wrote several songs about John, and credited other people for inspiration since he hated to come across as “queer”. Another example is “Hey Jude”. The lyrics don’t make much sense for Julian, but they make perfect sense for John, and John knew it. He spoke about it in an interview. “You’re waiting for someone to perform with. And don’t you know that it’s just you? Hey Jude, you’ll do”. John was in love with performance artist Yoko and was slowly distancing himself from the band, waiting for someone else to perform with. Paul is telling him not to fear himself in that decision, essentially encouraging him to go, which John described as the angel in Paul. Paul has described an argument the two of them had in ‘68, which ended with John lowering his granny glasses to the top of his nose while saying “it’s just me, you know”. Hence “and don’t you know that it’s just you”, meaning there’s no reason to be afraid, reminding John just like John had been reminding Paul. To rest my case, Paul has been known to make up background stories of songs in order to make them more conventionally PR friendly. “Let It Be” was inspired by a dream he had about Mal Evans, and originally went “brother Malcolm comes to me”. It was changed to “mother Mary” because Paul didn’t want people to get the wrong idea. Mal’s claim on this is supported by all available sources.
Mccartney lucía muy sobrado, arrogante en el Let It Be, Lennon lucía muy ausente, vale madres, con su brujita al lado, precisamente, con ésas actitudes, acabaron con The Beatles.
"Come and get it" .... was the first real wake-up to music for me ...loved it ... then I found Sgt Pepper .... but I've only found Song Writing recently which keeps me sane. Big Thanks.
