This channel was started to document my life after an L4-L5 Spinal Fusion and an L5-S1 decompression. Starting from Week 1 I will extensively describe what I was feeling and how I dealt with everything.
Your story is exactly what I’ve been going through. I fought with doctors for 6 years and finally found one this year that cared. I go in the 21st, I’m terrified, but hopeful. I just want my life back 😢
It’s good to see in the comments that a lot of people had successful I wish after my 3 spinal fusion surgeries it worked for me. I have a rod now from L3 to S1 and I still have pain in my back after my last surgery in 2020. Now I’m having hip problems as well, I have tried everything and now I feel like I can’t work.
Had laminectomy that caused much back problem including cauda equina..then 10 years later l4/5 fusion ,didn’t clear up back problem, still get load hastle from back.
These fresh young people have not had the spine surgery. Many of the exercises are completely impossiblel to do, when you have had the surgery. My physiotherapist give me exercises far from these. Even breastswim is not allowed in the beginning after surgery.
I'll be having l4-l5 fusion in next cpl months. I'm scared crapless. I've been putting this off for almost 2 years now. 90% of day in bed. Thank for these videos brother.
Wow that was an excellent video! I'm 64 and I had the same procedure done 2 weeks ago and had the same experience you're describing almost verbatim! Hope all is still going well for you & fam...thanks for the video! 😊
Well, I’m 2 weeks away from laminectomy, several fusions, a cage or two.. Kind of a big deal. This was super helpful. I’ve had 18 operations due to lightning strike, cartilage got fried! Got new knees, shoulders , neck fused. My suggestion… “Avoid Lightning”! So many helpful perspectives here in the vid and the responses! I’ll pray, tough it out and get off the pain meds asap following surgery. Always go thru withdrawal but so what. Was thinking of trying medical marijuana for the pain, anyone try that? Not a huge fan of opiates. Thanks again to all, nice to know what recovery may be like. Sounds like a first week of pain hell, 2nd week glimmer of hope thru the pain, 3rd week limited mobility but walking is important and need to let others do for me, which is tough. Thinking I’ll be out from work for 8 weeks? Can anyone confirm that or correct that thought? Thanks and good health and freedom from pain to all!
L4/L5 fusion on July 1, 2024. Starting week 3 and I still haven't done any twisting or full bending motion, but am walking very vigorously three times a day increasing speed and distance each session. Was aprehensive before the procedure and the first 3-4 days were brutal, but for really active people it seems like it's never going to get better. But it will - the key is to not rush things and do things to set it back. I fully plan to be on the golf course again later this year, but if the Doc puts the kabosh on that I will comply.
oh, will add that I still have drop foot and my big toe on the right foot is still numb. I have read that this can take months to resolve, so as difficult as it seems, gotta be patient.
‼️ I too have the same fusion you have. Mine 2003. Here are the mistakes I made since. #1: I waited 12 years and finally had the hardware removed. I had pain sitting for more than 20/30 minutes and hard surfaces were unbearable. I had no idea it was the metal rods causing this, but it was. The hardware can be removed safely after two years. #2: I went back to the gym and believed that gaining muscle was the best answer. I found out, cartilage is never stronger than muscles. The point is, I over did it. I now have an artificial disc on top of the fusion. The disc above gets burned out from life and especially heavy exercise. I am currently going to physical therapy with a physio specialist with a “Reformer” machine (a Pilates piece of equipment) and strengthening safely. Furthermore, the whole issue of body mechanics and posture are being addressed correctly and safely. I would never have a fusion done again. It was the only solution at the time. I hate my fusion because it is still a source of pain. What happens is there is a protein used in surgery that promotes bone growth. There is NO stop to this and eventually it grows into facet openings for nerves and impinges the nerve and you need to find a specialist who can open these ‘bony impingements’ up. For example Dr. Jeffrey Cantor (has RU-vid’s video “lumbar stenosis”) where he explains the use of an ultrasonic bone cutting surgical tool for outpatient surgery. I hate my fusion. At year 12 it had burned out the disc above. The gold standard in the US is STUPID adding more fusions on top of your old fusion. My brother dated a woman who kept getting more every few years and was stiff as a board. Dr. Ara Deukmajian (Deuk Spine - has RU-vid’s) avoids hardware altogether and I already mentioned Jeffrey Cantor. Good places to learn. Personally I went to Europe for artificial discs, 2016 lumbar just above the fusion and in 2018 two cervical. The US was too far behind at the time. The artificial disc was invented in Germany in the mid 1970’s. Furthermore Europe has a market of 750 million people and approves medical devices faster and lower costs than the FDA, so the newest best next generation offerings start in Europe and then eventually comes to the US market. These trips to another country are not covered by insurance and run $25 to $35k all in. My cervical facets were causing pain (fusion has nothing to do with how pristine or not the facets are). In 2022 I went to a specialist in California to clean out my neck facets. No regrets. I realize we are all different and surgical options and people’s wallets and circumstances vary. My posting is intended to widen perspectives on the subject and seriously avoid damaging through inadvertent ignorance we all experience. I made plenty in the gym. Never again is my motto. Best wishes.
I have had three back surgery is done the first one was to relieve a pinched nerve on the right side and the second one Was for the left side the same thing as the right side the third one was a back fusion on L4 and L5 they put a titanium rod in my bags bolts and screws can a cage around l4 and L5 I also have degenerative disc disease and a touch of scoliosis in my back on the lower part and now I'm going back for the fourth one on L2 L3 and S1 the last one was in 2020 I am 62 year's old now
Thank you for your videos and all the follow up content on your surgery. I will be doing TLIF on l4 l5 soon and more than anything i am anxious about outcome and how soon i will be able to get back to work even though im pretty sure its 20yrs as a hygienist that got me here.
This crap did not work. Felt nothing except the worst heart burn from the veggie one for hours. There is no substitute for eating whole fruits and veggies. Don’t waste your money. I feel stupid I gave into all those commercials with “real people giving real results”.
Similar surgery, very similar recovery experience. On Day 8 today. Rather than extended walking sessions, I've been trying to get 250 steps an hour, 14 hours a day. Yesterday, I started applying an ice gel pack over the dressing and a T-shirt, velcroing it with an elastic wrap, whenever I was up and out of bed. That has really provided relief, and I wish I'd started doing it sooner. I've experienced weight loss, loss of appetite, and frequent nausea. The hydrocodone is the likely cause, and the zoflan hasn't managed to quite keep it suppressed. Can't wait to end the pain meds and finally go for real walks outside again. That's my next goal.
I'd suggest some Olympic Squatting shoes. They aren't too expensive and they elevate your heel a bunch which makes it easier for you to get deeper without cjrving your lower back👍
Im just curious what month your in? I just finished my 3rd month since my surgery im benching and doing seated leg press basic spread for routine just no squats. Best of luck buddy just dont over do it. Ive had 2 spinal surgeries since 2022.
Check out allotropic glyconutrients over 100 scientifically backed benefits all people are deficient of them we only get 2/8 in our diet when we only get 2/8 glyco forms(our cels antennas) cannot be properly made and makes cancer and other diseases go unrecognized and our body to not be at its fullest potential!
I just had my six week visit with the surgeon after my fusion surgery and it took an x-ray of course and at this x-ray actually had me bend for the first time, this was after six weeks. I couldn’t touch my toes, but I was surprised that I could even binge as far as I did.
Nicely done video. Clear, includes the important details. Excellent that you stressed going at your own pace. People and the kinds of back surgery they need are all extremely different, so be sure to follow your own doctor's instructions.
Bought one earlier this year, spending $3,000 on the cooling unit and bath. The cooling unit has not worked properly/consistently since receiving it. A second unit was sent out to only receive the same issues with LITTLE SUPPORT outside of text messages and emails of RU-vid clips that we’ve already seen and tried. Requested a return and refund without success. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. AVOID THEM THEIR NEW REBRAND NAMED Warrior Willpower!!
Matt, I’m really sorry to hear this. I am not a representative of the company nor do I get paid from them. What I can say is I did not have these problems. I’m honestly sorry that you went through that brother.
You are an imspiration young man! I am having 4and 5 fused plus a lamanectomy on 3 to remove a cyst , so 345 bridged. Im terrified. Im in greatshape now and can still walk 3 miles a day and do evrtything but with pain. I was on the fence firever and backed out many times recently as March 19. Im just worried ill have as much pain after. Thanks for all videos
I had a follow up after a month. I NEVER did physical therapy. I had such a sour taste when they couldn’t get on the same page and wanted me there the day after surgery I did it all myself.
Dam look like this is hell getting a surgery ! My doctor told me I have L4 L5 and S1 but don’t need no surgery she just told me she will sending me to a Physical Therapy! I hope the Physical Therapy can help me out! From what I heard from your story man freak me out if I have to get a surgery

Not every company is there to make money, and not all companies cut corners. The key is to support those that do not. Jocko is a true American patriot, no corners are cut 100%.
Well, every company does exist to make money. Some scam, trick and exploit you more than others. But as a company you have to make money. I get what you’re saying though.
