At the 0:30 point of the song, Bill says, "its got 8 cylinders and uses 'em all." The original song, written by Charlie Ryan, was, "its got 12 cylinders and uses 'em all"... Charlie should know for sure, because it was his car, which he built. He took a Lincoln Zephyr with the V-12 engine, took the body off, shortened the frame, and put an early 1930s Model A body on it. I saw the car at the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ some years ago when the car was auctioned off by his estate, and for sure it had a V-12 engine in it. BTW: The car went over the auction block for $105,000 plus 8% buyers' premium. And other singers of the song say "its got 8 cylinders" as well, so its not just Bill Kirchen on the hot seat.
To Iancrouse. Try earnest Tubb record shop in Nashville. I got a box set (5) cd’s. Of Jimmy driftwood. Real name James morris. He was a school teacher couldn’t get students interested in history in books so put it to music
The review of the other musicians in the middle of hot rod lincoln was entertaining and fun/good to hear.. never saw that done before. These 2 are great guitar players and good entainers❗🎯🥳👌 👳♂️-- A Big Thumbs up 👍
Shane is a fantastic guitarist, and his humorous lyrics remind me of songs Merle Travis wrote, like "So Round, So Firm, So Fully Packed" and "When My Baby Double-Talks to Me"
This was absolutely fascinating, informative and entertaining. That must have been Queen Mary you mentioned - I didn't know that! I'm astonished she was even aware of clogging in England. I'm an English folk musician but dabble in Old Time music. I'm playing clawhammer banjo now, and learned some flatfooting from Ira Bernstein when he was over here doing some workshops years ago. I can only aspire to your level of dancing and playing. Thank you so much!
Jimmy Driftwood came to Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas around the late seventies and I provided the PA system at Tucker coliseum for the Driftwood show. I was blown away by Jimmy and his fellow band mates; they were great! I've loved the simple instruments they played that night and the simpler times of music they brought with them! Jimmy played the guitar that he had made himself. They were an American Treasure right in my own back yard!!
I heard this song in passing, loved it and sent it to my husband to listen to, and a full week later started singing it to myself and pulled it up to listen again... and having forgotten that I sent it to my husband, resent it. ❤ Brings the Smoky Mountains and contra dancing of my youth right back to me.
Dang, didn't know that, saw him perform at the Caney Creek Cowboy Church near Grand Saline Texas in 2016, got to meet and talk a bit, a real gentleman, fine singer.
