I mean the under part is closer to the nape of your neck in comparison to the top. So naturally for it to be even, the underside will be shorter than the top. Otherwise you would have ugly stair like hair.

I feel your pain, I too recently went in for a haircut and asked for a bob with a few layers and face framing bangs. I walked out with probably the worst haircut I've had so far... Luckily, the lady stopped to ask me how short I wanted the bangs and I decided to go with mid-long curtain bangs, else I'd walked out of there looking like Dora's friend Boots gave her a bad "hair trim." 😅 Suffice to say, that woman (I can't even call her a hairdresser) had better imprinted that memory in her mind forever because it's the last time she'll ever see me in her chair and lay hands on my hair ever again. 🙃😭 #HaircutFails💇🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
