If you are in tech industry you must read a book called IT WORKPLACE; Surviving Stress, Office Politics, and Protecting Your Health in the Corporate World.
I really enjoyed this video! One big takeaway for me was how important it is to have an actual plan for getting reviews. Instead of just hoping for them, Pia reached out to 100 people personally to get their commitments. That’s some serious hustle! Another lesson I found surprising was how preorders can boost your book’s ranking on Amazon. It makes sense now why they’re so key for launching. Lastly, the idea of using a workbook or other freebies to keep readers engaged after they read your book is genius! It helps build your email list too. Thanks for sharing!
It sounds like whatever publishing this guy does is the most safe, uncreative, boring work there is. 1.5 years? In the 21st century? 1.5 years? They are looking for things that would likely already sell exceptionally well as independent. What they are offering is basically some short-term cushion and upfront payments to editors for your book. You have to give them 1.5 years, rights and contracts, creative liberties, and on top of that you need to be someone who already has an advertising vehicle. The guy might as well be chomping a cigar. The only way he can be somewhat honest about any of this and not come off as a toolbag is by saying "kind of" and "sort of" all the time. The story of them trying to push out books like The Da Vinci code is sad. His is the type of publisher that got manipulated by a b2b tech company that convinced them that with big data you can work miracles (hint, you can't). The real use of this video is to get you to understand what reality is like. Be a likeable person with quality writing and maybe you can play ball. That sounds fair to me.
Just about all of her strategies seem to violate Amazon's current rules, according to a 2024 video I just watched. You cannot offer incentives to review. So keep that in mind.
$10000 is a huge amount, to all the people who are looking for someone who can help you get your book pulbilshed and want your book in top 100 seller do let me know I can do that in like 1000$ and for reviews will be charged extra $500. Book will be on 13 platforms
Well obviously she doesn’t know how to write and edit on her own book. So she should not give advice, especially she has had multiple people helping her.
The title is, “How to build an author platform.” And the guys advice for doing this is, “Have a million followers, and or, have sold 50,000 copies of a book, and or, get an endorsement from a celebrity.” Real insightful stuff… LOL
That's the right question to ask. If you give away an ARC, the reader can leave a review, but if they don't purchase a copy, or download a copy from Amazon during a free promotion, their review is not counted as from a verified purchaser.
Not exactly. Honest reviews given in exchange for a free Advanced Reader Copy does not vioulate Amazon's review policy. The review isn't from a verified purchaser, but the review isn't in vioulation of an Amazon policy.
Yes - I always recorded practicing songs, and it makes sense to do it with writing. The difference is you are listening, not doing. So you are focused only on what you are hearing, not the process of doing it.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! Loved this short video. There are a million videos on book structure on RU-vid but only a handful on how to structure a chapter itself. Love that Pia gives that 5 part example of her internal chapter structure. I'm sending this to all my non-fiction writing coaching clients. It could save writers a least a year of stumbling around rewriting their non-fiction book. Thanks.
Oprah read Robert C Bauer, "The Kid Gallagher Story " on a flight to Santa Barbara. Now she brings it everywhere so she can share it with her closest friends. Why? Because it makes her laugh. You will too! This one will surprise you.
I disagree when they say if only five people are talking about it how far is it going to go. When you have 5 people those 5 people can advertise it to other people and those people will also talk about it until you find that you have a ton of people talking about your book.
Wonderful to know that there are debut authors who can make it big, but there are. Mr. Gottlieb is an honest literary agent who gives good insight into how publishing works.
