Reminds me of one night back in the summer of '20 when an eastbound BNSF with a D9 leader passed my house while saluting the two grade crossings nearby. Nothing is better than the wide font and narrow font eras of K3LA!
That horn screams 'Santa Fe'! Wonderful horn and doppler effect capture! That was a very nice horn and brings the retro-vibes, especially on that '89 Dodge Ram-Charger!
I'm wondering how this could've gone on for hours and hours on end without someone at least trying to disconnect the line switches with the long insulated pole. If the fault was spreading the power company should've shut down the whole area at the substation.
Doug911 I was watching a movie on Netflix and saw your video of Moore’s Mill Rd in the movie. The movie is called “Wait for Further Instructions” your video is playing on TV at the 03:05 min mark.
Wow that's crazy. I got a copy from my office almost 20 years ago. Forgot when I posted it to the tube. Funny that it's now stock footage 20 years later.
911doug I have worked for Baltimore County Fire Dept for 34 years. Had a similar event happen in Essex. When I saw the movie on Netflix and saw your video I knew I had seen this tape before. Searched RU-vid and found your post! Small world🙂
Somewhere down on Fullerton There's a place that meant so much to everybody like me Somewhere down on Fullerton There's a place that meant the world to everybody like me But I'm still trying to figure out why Things feel so wrong when they felt so right Felt so right four years ago
DieselSmoke92 was a 30 gallon tank strapped in where the back seat used to be. Either charged with a compressor at home or 12v one in vehicle. Not a big 12v one sadly. Used a solenoid valve to control air. Found it sounded better with valve at tank to allow rise and fall from hose expansion
We don't do anything until our troublemen get out there, like you we block the reclosers, pull up the circuit map. It's obvious the relays failed, why the circuit wasn't dumped earlier is beyond me. Your okay to work hot with a hold is like our No Test Orders. This is completely unacceptable.
If I worked for the power company, I would have made a decision to cut power to the WHOLE area if that was the only way. I would rather lose $ and possibly my job then see someone die or see houses go up in flames. I think the power company is all about the money.
Nice vid! I used to live in West Memphis, AR, and worked in Memphis, TN. The view going into St. Louis is MUCH better than the one I saw every morning! =D
Also, nowadays, with substation automation and computer control, the substation circuit breakers can be operated remotely (sattelite) with a computer at the POCO base station.
update 11 years later: now our OpCos have a radio meshnet over the system that they can use to remotely operate automatic switches, and those switches can also be set to automatically shut off or switch power faster than a human can react.
Lol, why didn't the utility company open the circuit breakers at the substation?? And, if that was a big issue for reliability, why not open the cutouts to the feeders in the local area??
