Kiwi I was actually about to buy this kit for my 55 Buick Special. But I was thinking I have a 74 full size Olds 88 steering box and I have a 80s Monte Carlo SS steering box do you know which steering box they used in that kit? I'm wondering if I could just do this myself rather than wasting the money buying the kit and having to do it myself like you did anyway.
Hey Kiwi, Tim here, THANK YOU for exposing these awful folks......i'm gonna let my boss know to STAY AWAY from EZ steer......as we have converted a # of old cars to P/S, using old brackets and such, but all were on 60's cars....we do get an occational 50's car in for various things......we need to stay away from EZ steer, as we learned to STAY AWAY from Right Stuff brake conversions......that Co. Is awful......we will only do Wilwood conversions now.....we went thru 3 nitemares with "right stuff" with ZERO cust support......TY sir!!!
When the manufacturer says their parts "bolts right in" they mean if you are an expert fabricator, have access to NASA's shop, and a BIG sledgehammer, you MIGHT be able to get it to fit.
Lesson learned.... 90% of all that stuff is garbage. I always fabricate all the part myself. You're not going to save time or money by having to modify parts that are supposed to fit and don't
Seems more and more of these eBay parts stores are leaving customers hang when there's a problem with the part that's ordered. What bugs me is there's always an associated 20-50% restocking fee if you return it... even if you're returning it because of an issue brought on by the seller. I tag my good sellers with praise and repurchases and report the bad ones to eBay and the BBB.
Damage Control at this point mate! Good on you fo' havin' a platform to vent & inform others. I truly appreciate learning from other people's mistakes & misfortunes, always have. I recently moved to da Midwest and am simply blown away with how some folks/shops stay in business! Da Big City makes short work of these types b/c of da ($$) overhead to have a shop facility. But out here in BFE everybody has a pole building/barn on their land, many with car-lifts installed, and just (end up) storing cars, long-term (forever) projects & (sub)exist.....SMH! But on da Interwebs everybody can look & sound like they know what they are talking about & offering, but their (non)scheduling, prioritizing, shipping, follow-thru and excessive talking/excusing when things go or look wrong is simply stupifing! Many long drives home, talkin'/screamin' to myself..... If you or a buddy (shop) have a hose-maker/crimper, I think you could make some custom hoses w/fittings to make dat routing a lill' (hidden) nicer. Lesson(s) learned. Warnings sounded. Time fo' a cold snack (adult beverage) & carry-on, as you were Kiwi....life is still good mate! You da Man......
Its a good thing that someone as skilled as you was installing it and could fab the stuff that would fit. My question is if the customer can make proper brackets why can't they? It would take little more effort to make a part that works than one that doesn't.
I have a problem with these types of companies. For businesses like yours it's extra headaches and loss in laber costs as much as the product not to mention the customer's loss of driving in the prime summer months. For many of us there is a small window when we can do this work because we do it in the driveway. That eats a lot of that time out that we need for other projects. Not only that we have a city ordinance that only allow a tear down of 24 hrs. We have to try to sneak by that. Three days is bad enough but several weeks of playing around is major problem. This company is not the only one. When I worked for an auto parts store the business had the local mechanics business because we could deliver the right part within 2-3 days. Most of the time right off the shelf so it was a same day deal. Now a days it's more like we live in a different country and have to import everything. That's just the time part. The correct part that is as described is a whole different story. The part fitting and lasting is a third story.
Great video Kiwi, thanks for the heads up. Crap vendors and crap products should be vilified for what they are. Who knows how many gear heads you just saved a lot of time and money on inferior kit.
Surely you know how to file a claim with ebay ? They are almost 100% on the buyers side and will make the sellers life miserable until it's corrected . Unless the customer brought the car and the kit ....then it's your customers problem .
I've seen ads for several EZ Steer products over the years, in Hot Rod, Street Scene and other custom car mags.. Sometimes, the only way to spot a poorly engineered product or kit, is buy and try to install it... That's how many of us, have learned this trade/hobby.. The school of hard knocks.. Shame on them, for not owning the outcome here . Though we see how they 1st failed on product quality, then completely bailed on the customer on support.. The balls in their court, though Kiwi Classics was the wrong user, to bail on . This one's gonna hurt them...
Well EZ Steer won't be getting my business or my customers business ever after seeing this! Thank you for sharing Kiwi!! Sorry you went through this...
What's the best rust neutralizer or converter for surface rust on trunk and hood framing under the skin where you can't get to working on 64 dart gt convertible
Can’t tell ya how many times those new condensers go bad.... had that problem on an In board. engine on my sailboat. Figured it was a whole run... but easy fix once diagnosed, now I change those as a matter of course when problems start. If they are charging $7 they probably cost like 8 cents to make overseas . That’s a great car- surprised it was a survivor since her sisters are long since made into razor blades .
Thank you, Kiwi for outing a scam company preying on the hobby. EZ STEER in TEXAS got it. Will pass this on to our 500 member Antique & Classic car club up here in Ontario Canada. Cheers 🇨🇦
..'burned on ebay'..happens to everyone..I got ripped 2 months in a row.. a stereo recorder that doesn't record..and a bottle of hair tonic that was 'delivered'..but not to me. Amazon too. Is anyone honest anymore?
Makes me wonder what sort of frankenbuick it is that you had to cut the steering box off? It should be the same as a 56 Chevy (or Pontiac, Olds, or Cadillac) and I'm 99&44/100ths percent certain they bolt on. And there are lots of sources for reman power steering boxes. Well, then you'd have to find a pump, bracket, and hoses.
The Buick is kinda like the mustang box, it has one line shaft going all the way up to the steering wheel so it has to be cut. Also this car was manual steer so a complete OE set up would have been needed and then rebuilt. This seemed like the best option at first glance. 😡
I'm sure it's too late now, but could the return fitting on the pump been welded closed and a new one welded in the back of the tank so the hose would not come across the battery or is it a plastic tank?
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. This is I am a guy who refuses to go aftermarket . Unless it’s American reman kit don’t buy ! Oh nice work on Kevin channel ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍🇺🇸
