LOVE how it sits low without camber... very well executed on all levels. Makes me want to try a Porsche 912, or 356 with a Subbie heart- so much less expensive for power then VW or Porsche power.
I also would love to see a mid engine build using the Subaru trans like they do in those factory 5 818 kit cars. Firewall is right behind the front seats.
Did you do anything special to prevent cracking the oil pan on anything? I know that the engine sits pretty low in these swapped Beetles so I imagine that becomes and issue when you combine that with sport suspension.
I live in pitts, kind of want to do this swap. Don't want to pay millions and want someone to do it. Does anyone know who around Pitts does this. I have a custom chop and drop 66 beetle.
What trans is in this thing? I know most guys run a modded bus trans, but I've seen the SubaruGears reverse R&P/2WD trans kit for about the same price as adapting the VW trans. I'm doing the n/aEJ25 in a '74SB. I'll use the Subaru trans, since I believe it will be more than beefy enough to handle north of 200hp in a car roughly half the weight of the donor car. Anyway, I hope all you guys are making progress out yours! I'm in the middle of an Isuzu rebuild at the moment. Toy/tow rig first.
Milfslaya he most likely shortened the original. Most I've seen are reinforced with diamond plate, in case of impact. Have you started yours? I'm doing the EJ25 in a '74SB. N/A for now.
Russell Gist I haven’t started it yet I’m trying to gather all the parts before. My friend has a 2005 sti full engine he’s going to sell me as well as a wrx transmission
Nine years later the youtube community is blessed with the update of the famed Subie powered VW... Thank You!! I always asked myself what happened to this beast the last video I remembered is when you tried to do a wheelie stand and something went wrong with the engine if I remember correctly well, its good to see it back and it top notch condition.
