That's a pretty cool job. I live near where the 157th Refueling wing is stationed. Their KC135s go over my house all the time. I also see other military aircraft too. Btw I am a huge aviation fan.
Nice video! Love the snowy scenery. Once the receiver hooks up, do you have to manually follow it around with your boom it does it kind of pull around by itself? Does the boom have any magnets at the end to help itself stick in?
StalePhish Each receiver has toggles that latch onto the boom using electrical signals. The boom is controlled and 'flown' by the boom operator with a joystick in the back of the plane, and once connected to the receiver can move freely up to predefined limits.
no magnets the receiver aircrafts in-flight refueling receptacle has 2 locks. A sensor on the bottom of the boom where it connects with the receiver aircraft controls the locks.
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing. it's amazing to think that those kinds of maneuvers can be performed with no more visual cues than a couple of lights.
What time did u get there to stay in a fron row of London eye???? How did the weather look like??? Im going to London in Dec and some people told me that it wont be a good option because it's too crowded there and I must get early and stay until 12am to see the fireworks and after 10 minutes I wont have public transport to get back home because the train stations will be closed and the buses are too crowded. What do u think about it??? I will be there on my own. What do u suggest???
the atmosphere of this celebration is amazing through my computer! i wish i lived in London so i could go to such an event! sadly i live across the Atlantic in america :(
