1977? I think? was the first time I heard them. Damn those are some good ass memories. The Palaise Royale looking out on Lake Ontario. Rock on Rooney. Hey Harry.
This is awesome. Ive dipnetted with the natives in bucktown on the thames. Played hockey with this guy like 30 years ago as kids in bothwell. This is cool to discover him telling these stories and riffin.
This clip gives a good example of how John Mellor became Joe Strummer by internalizing aspects of Bernie's personality, and you can also see why Mick Jones couldn't stand Bernie. Paul Simonon found Bernie too be an object of amusement and ridicule. Topper barely tolerated him, as Bernie for whatever reason was always belittling Topper for being from Dover. The Clash fired him in 1978, but got him back in 1982 on worse terms than the first time around. Someone should have sealed Bernie and Kim Fowley in a 55 gallon oil drum, with a packet of crisps and a bottle of wine, and shot it into outer space.
