Lyrics Won't you stop and take a little Time out with me, just take five Stop your busy day and take the Time out to see if I'm alive Though I'm going out of my way Just so I can pass by each day Not a single word do we say It's a pantomime and not a play Still, I know our eyes often meet I feel tingles down to my feet When you smile, that's much too discreet Sends me on my way Wouldn't it be better not to be so polite You could offer a light Start a little conversation now, it's alright Just take five, just take five
I'm from colombia trying to get better in scat and gosh this videos helped me so much, I'm singign while reading comments so i dont get stuck in trying to actually do the syllables, thank you so much!
I'm so glad to hear that the videos are helping you with your scat singing! It's great that you're practicing while reading the comments to keep the flow going. Greetings to Colombia!
I have recently developed a liking to scatting but somehow all the scat videos on RU-vid have a follow along kind of tutorial. Vowels like a e i o u are used with words like B and D. I understand the syllables being sung but is there a necessary structure to be followed?? Like does one have to copy every syllable inorder to sing because that's quite difficult for me. Eg: If I am listening to Ella Fitzgerald's scat in song How High the Moon, I cannot copy it word for word.. Am i missing something that I should know about?? Or are there principles that one must know before scatting or can it be improvised on the spot?? Is there a strict method to learning scat? I need your assistance with this. Thank you.
Hi! It’s great that you’re interested in scat singing! Scat is a wonderful art form that offers a lot of room for creativity and improvisation. Here are a few things you should know: Basics and Structure: There’s no fixed structure or set of rules you have to follow when scatting. Scat thrives on spontaneity and the expression of your unique style. Syllables and Vowels: Using vowels like a, e, i, o, u with consonants like B and D is common, but there aren’t any specific syllables you must copy. You can find your own combinations and experiment. Imitation and Improvisation: When practicing, it can be helpful to start by imitating well-known scat phrases to get a feel for the rhythm and phrasing. However, the goal is to develop your own voice and style. It’s perfectly fine if you can’t copy every syllable from someone like Ella Fitzgerald. Spontaneity: Scat is highly improvisational. You can and should invent new melodies and rhythms on the spot. That’s the beauty of scatting - it gives you the freedom to play with your voice. Practice and Experience: Like any other aspect of singing, scat requires practice. The more you engage with it, the more confident you’ll become and the more fun you’ll have. There’s no strict method to learning scat - the key is to be open, experiment, and have fun.

Hola, los ejercicios son del libro "Scat" de Bob Stoloff. Compré el libro y hay un código en el libro con el que puedes descargar los audios. bobstoloffmusic.com/scat
Not sure how I feel about all the diddlies and doodlies in the scat solos, but they seem very well coordinated! Was this a collaborative effort somewhere?
Hi. Thank you for your critical words. I have cut something together from the many solos sent to me. So it wasn't a group effort, but it created a community. For many of the singers it was their first contact with scat singing, which we use in jazz to express our musical ideas, just like a wind instrument.
Hi! Greetings from a fellow singer from Argentina. Since getting hold of the book down here is quite impossible, my dad is bringing me one copy. Do you know where to get the audio files? Please excuse my ignorance. Blessings!
