What a great actor. It's both sad and shocking how much he deteriorated between 1969 and 1972 when he reprised his roll as the first Doctor. Even his voice sounds like someone in their 80's not mid 60's. He passed away at the age of 67 as did the second Doctor Patrick Troughton and the word lost two great character actors. It was very enjoyable seeing him in most of his film appearances.
Thank you so much for this, I fell in love with Lis when I was around 12-13 years old, Jon, Tom and Lis where my entry to Doctor Who have remained a fan to this day. Not seen many of her performances that you included here, but it was such a delight for me to see them. My eternal thanks.
How lucky Doctor Who was to have the presence of such a great and striking actress in one of its first leading roles. And Barbara became one of the strongest of female companions in the show, so she must have brought some of that gravitas to the role and inspired the writers.
You can really see how much he was struggling in that Life with Johnny clip. He was so controlled and quick in the other clips before his health started to betray him at the end of his run on Who. What a treasure.

So much more than a screaming or helpless sidekick! When you look at all of these roles he done here, it's an utter myth he just played sergeant major roles. He had a massive variety of roles to play. Where can I get that Life With Johnny episode? That's a rarity. I believe it used to be on RU-vid but the account is no longer here.
