0:20-0:25, Chris Noel appeared in a number of films and can be seen in the Perry Mason episode The Case of the Silent Six. She gave up a promising career in acting to host an AFN radio show "A Date with Chris" She married an American Army Captain , Ty Herrington who suffered severe PTSD. Eleven months into thr marriage, he committed suicide. Chris made a number of visits to troops in the field and on two occasions was in a helicopter that was shot down.
Towards the end of my 3 1/2 yrs in & around Vietnam, I think it was May 1970 I was sent to Cam Ranch Bay to augment the Navy/Air Force Security, floating around the river flowing from the mountains to the ocean. I was made part of a 3 man security team. From sundown to sunup, 1800hrs to 0700, in a +-15ft OUTBOARD BOSTON WHALER type small boat. We would run up & down that river, dropping “CONCUSSION GRENADES”, inspecting any water traffic like sampans, canoe 🛶 & after dark was a curfew so anything, besides us, on the water, we’d stop & check, then either send them or toe them to shore or turn them in to the Vietnamese local cops or military, depending on what we determined after interviewing & inspection. As you can imagine, once in a while, things could get spicy, but we made it back in one piece.
I first visited VN in January 2000...and again 2020...The Change in SGN & Bien HOA in these 20 years ( for the better )🤔Im not sure.I guess in someways yes , but I also saw lost VN culture in those 20 years. .. I was there again in 2023 and Returning later this year 2024
My turn was at TSN AB Saigon in 1969! Then as a Security Policeman I worked nearly 24 hours providing surveillance on the outskirts. Nowhere near the show! Along with many Security and LE troops! I'd do it again !
1966? I was 15 in the UK watching the war on TV and hoping to Hell our government kept us out of this mess. I've since 'walked the Wall' and paid respect to all those who should have enjoyed all the things I have since.
Watching this shook a few cobwebs loose in my seventy five year old brain…Christmas Eve -1970. Bob Hope was doing his annual show at Long Binh - we had it tuned up on our ADF (Automatic Direction Finder). The sun had long ago set along a dirt road near Quan Loi where the “Good Guys” (grunts) had been taking a pounding. My wingman and I had just relieved another crew after we had refueled and rearmed our AH-1G Cobras. I toggled the master switch to arm, then selected the twenty millimeter. With the stars above me and an infinite darkness below, I rolled into a thirty degree dive just as Connie Stevens began singing Silent Night.

My grandfather sent this home on a tape to his family around Christmas 67 / New Years 68. He was stationed at Da Nang and sadly passed away while bombing a truck convoy March 21st, 1968.
Does anyone remember when the Radar Domes were adorned with fluorescent tubes in the shape of a Christmas Tree and I believe a star or Cross? 1969 377th SPS Law Enforcement. Charlie dropped several 122's into the USA 69th Signal Corp. Compound. My memory is fading but I always walked to the 1300 area from Bldg 19.

I was at Newport Deepdraft #3 31 January 1968. Newport bridge was a bit messy the following morning and Hwy 1 back to Long Binh. Flight out of Bien Hoa back home delayed per rocket attacks two weeks later. Eldest son and family now in Da Nang teaching English as a secondary language. Planning to visit from current assignment in East Africa.
Went to Ft Jackson SC, Sep 1965, Nov. 1965. F 8 2. My Platoon Sgt. was drill Sgt. Harden, a big guy used to play college football. Drill Sgt. in the Army, Go figure! The Company 1st Sgt was Charley Manson before there was a Charley Manson! Crazy Eyes!! We also had Drill Sgt Mosley, and a few other insanes. Anyone remember Fire watch!?? KP at 4 30 AM! M 14, bayonet training forever, and hand to hand combat! Pugil stick training, gas in the tent! Got gassed on the road one day, whole company broke and ran!. Last time that happened! Got that mask on QUICK, next time! I ate everything on the tray! DI'S in the mess hall!!! NO TALKING! Never raise your hand for anything, My dad told me that. Best friends of your life. Got home for leave, my dad knew I was different, my Mom didn't know what happened to her smartass kid! 4 STAR FAMILY! 4 Stars on our Door in Lakewood OHIO. great Memories, NOW. back then I thought i went to Hell! Lost weight and gained muscle! Learned to STFU, real quick! SGT Mosely, 6 foot three, Black man DI ,lead our PT every day.Challenged the whole company on day one! NO VOLUNTEERS!
