If you look at the valastro collection at the end: they payed 2500 for the whole thing. That would be 30.000 adjusted for inflation today. I don‘t think the initial buy is affordable but rather the 50 years of use made it affordable.
This house has been listed for many months. Reduced from $1.8M to $1.6M, it's now listed as a building lot. (translation: teardown !!! ) www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/4-Deacon-Dr_Saint-Louis_MO_63131_M75201-71696?ex=MO2700026546&view=qv
*This is a really nice chair>>>**nub.best/bovz** Very sturdy and easy out with bad knees. A little heavy , but it should last a long time. I set it up in my living room to test it out and I did not want to get up. Will be great addition to our motor home.*
Yes these are all Eames chairs that need proper recognition, especially with the abundance of replicas nowadays because of manufacturing advancements, etcetera. Sometimes buying a replica is not the best choice but not everyone has the money to buy the originals. I've got a lot of furniture from barcelona-designs.com, especially a beautiful Eames Lounge chair replica.
It's hard for me not to hear "the concerns of society as a whole" as bitterly ironic, given that this poster is "MEN of modern mathematics." It's sad to think that it was shown to, of all people, impressionable schoolchildren, given what we know from research about the influence of how a classroom space is decorated on whether students think they belong in a STEM field or not.
This is certainly a great point you make. The Venn diagram indicates a large region of social concern, while the artist's idea was to consider the intersections, at that time. Of course, our idea of what is `of concern' changes over time, too. We learn and progress. Rather than neglect or omit any mistakes of the past, it's best we acknowledge and learn from them. All of these advances in mathematics indicated on the timeline are important; it's perhaps the best we as humans have, given the modus operandi through those years. Still, as it is clear to me, we're still at the beginning mathematically, and the most important pieces of mathematics are still to come. Those I trust will be from an increasingly diverse and inclusive group of mathematicians. This is exciting, and everyone is welcome to explore!
Let me get this straight, you were upset that 2 of the chairs were sold and thought that irresponsible of the dealer, but you took 6 months to decide you wanted the table with the 4 chairs? People are in business to make money, not to wait around for 6 months for some indecisive person to make up their mind.
Actually, Charles and Eero Saarinen developed the first molded plywood seat for the for the "Organic Design and Furnishing" in 1940. Charles and Ray Eames just further developed the chair later on. But other than that, very informative.
I said it's Alexander Girard naugahyde, I should have said it's covered in Alexander Girard's proprietary HOPSAK, designed exclusively for Herman Miller. This illustrates the peril of speaking extemporaneously, with no notes.
