I remember before AIDs there was an actual gay community with elders who were respected and helped the younger folks along. When most died things changed and not for the better. Now there really is no gay community just hook ups on grinder etc. Instead of developing a healthy, supportive and respected community what do we have ? Lots of gay men addicted to drugs, anyone over 35-40 seen as decrepit and worthless, off to live in the suburbs alone and dejected.
I enjoyed this film, I'm 52 and I enjoy life now more than ever .Getting older can be a very interesting and positive experience. I think a lot of younger people project sadness on to older people, they are scarred of getting older so they presume older people are lonely and sad. I feel as an older gay man I don't have to keep up the pretence of fashion ,hoping to meet the love of my life and all that crap! I enjoy my life ,my friends and my private time alone. I love life!!
I wish I lived in a larger city where there was an organization like "Opening Doors London". I would especially like to meet the man who is HIV+ and lives in the flat with the fish tank. He said he's traveled the world. I'm 57 years old, HIV+ and very lonely. It's difficult to meet other gay men my age or older. So many were lost during the AIDS plague.
