Hello friends, my name is Teameaka, Tea for short! This channel features my sewing makes, plans, and tips! I am a self-taught sewing enthusiast since 2003. I post videos weekly of new sewing makes.
I didn't intend to buy more fabric, but I did buy two things at Joann (hot tip - if you don't want to buy anything, don't even go in the store! However, I wanted a pattern on sale, so...😄). I think the dark background florals have a rich, dramatic and elegant look to them - I get compliments constantly for a simple tank top and matching cardigan I made several years ago from knit fabric from Joann's with pretty flowers on a black background - also love that dark backgrounds look clean longer than white backgrounds and work into the early fall when light and white things sometimes look too summery but it's still hot.
Cute tops! I like the pattern, but I’d have to grade it up quite a bit. I bet there is a similar McCalls or Butterick pattern that may come in the larger sizes. I’ll have to look. I enjoy your videos.
I have this pattern and want to make it soon. Your version looks less boxy than the one pictured on the pattern. Super feminine and pretty! Do you always use muslin for your first mock ups, or do you use some other fabric?
Both versions are so pretty on you! I love the lengthening of the sleeve for the light blue. Would love a tutorial on what you did to the sleeve. Also, can you do a video for those of us that have trouble with dart placement. I avoid sewing patterns with darts like the plague!!!😮😮😮😮😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is my all time favourite dress pattern, and I have made it at least a dozen times. I also add pockets to most of my dresses (internal, not patch pockets) and it's really a dream dress! My one issue is that whenever I have made it with sleeves, the armhole doesn't seem to have enough room in the front (I'm a D bra size), and I can't think of how to remedy this. I feel like if I cut it slightly deeper, then the sleeve will look weird. Have you had any issues with this, and do you have any advice? I'm a medium in this pattern, but usually wear a size 14 (Canada sizes)
Beautiful dress Tea. I have this pattern but have put off making it because of the narrow shoulders and very wide neckline. Did you raise the neckline on yours? Also, where should the back pleats lie? I assumed they would just lie in the small of the back, but you raised yours. Thank you. I love your fitting advice in all your tutorials.
Hi! No, I did not raise my neckline. But yes, I did lengthen the shoulder line. Also, I lowered the front bodice but not the back. Raising or lowering the pattern doesn't change the horizontal positioning of the pleats. Vertically, if you raise or lower your bodice, it will be higher or lower. But if you position the bodice at your waistline in the back, that's where the pleats will rest. Same for the front, if the bodice front rests just below your breast, then that's where the pleats would rest. Hope this helps! Happy sewing.
This dress looks lovely on you. When you go up a size do you have to adjust the shoulders? If you do could you give us a video to show how you adjust. Thank you.
If they have the blouse pattern (S3002) in my size, I’d get that one. The others don’t thrill me much. Good overview Tea! Have the other pattern co.’s released their fall patterns?
I will probably get the hoodie pattern 3012 because that's the kind of thing I really wear every day in the fall and winter but I thought some of the other patterns were quite nice; I just don't need what looks like "dressier" clothes. The adaptive clothing patterns are fantastic! They are very much needed and I like that the adaptive jeans are even rated as easy - the winner of the recent Pattern Review jeans fitting contest was a woman who made a pair of custom jeans for her special needs son and they were amazing - these patterns will be a huge help to people who need help with more stylish clothes that work with wheelchair use.
I very much agree! I've come to appreciate that every collection isn't going to be for me, but it will meet the needs and wants of people who can use such patterns. It's very important to share what we can with everyone! That's what I love about this collection.
Those dark backgrounds really are dramatic with the floral prints and always look so pretty on you! I couldn't begin to recommend a pattern to you because I'm not at your level of sewing - I did buy the Simplicity pattern 8655 after seeing it made up by you and am looking forward to trying it out - I never thought to get that pattern b/c I wouldn't be trying to make pants but was convinced I could do the tie-front top after seeing yours!
Yes, I love dark backgrounds with bright floral prints. Such a great combo. And that simplicity 8655 pattern is such an easy and fun pattern. I hope you like it.
