Yeah, it's kind of stupid that Yaesu doesn't supply a replacement bulb. To be honest, I really like the LEDs a lot better. I don't remember if I mentioned it in the video but I got the LED kit from HamSupply. They have a website and an ebay store. Thanks for watching and 73!

Another common fault with these is that the earthing to the top righthand board fails. It is accomplished via the board location screws. Unscrew and retighten. The fault manifest itself as - on SSB transmit and with no mod power is indicated. John, thanks for the comment. When I had it opened, I loosened and tightened every screw I could find. All boards included. I'm starting to think it is a cracked solder joint (or two) somewhere. Will try to work on it another time...Take care and 73!

Good video. Kinda surprised that keyer made the cover of QST but had a bug in it! No one who used it obviously had a Z in their call..until you. Good you were able to catch it. Thanks for posting this and 73! de WX0V
@ZedBeeE

It was some other project that made the cover. But the "Z" issue was weird. He did track down the problem and it was an "=" sign buried in the code that had to be deleted. Crazy isn't it? One stupid "=" sign. Much respect for him to dig through and find that for me. Once it was deleted, the "Z" worked fine business. And yes, I'm getting lazy in my age in order to deploy this..... Thanks for watching, Scott and 73!

study the "service manual for the ts 130". there is a pa board that may have a component with a problem. the final transistors are still available, but not the drivers. I had a ts430 that uses the same pa board. recomment you make a video when disassembling the radio so you will put it back together again. too many details to remember. note: kenwood used transistors for the drivers wich had reversed position of the collector ,base and emitter. could not find them in the market.
@ZedBeeE
@ZedBeeE Год назад
Sergio, the PA board is a tricky one to take apart on this radio. That is for sure! I will leave that one for a "last resort" if I can't figure out the problem. I do appreciate the suggestion and will let you know if I had to go that deep on it. Take care and 73! ..

I would push on the boards while trying to transmit. I would also unplug and replug all the connectors. And last try a different mike. I have a TS-440s that came to me with alot of issues...
@ZedBeeE
@ZedBeeE Год назад
Kenny, unplugging all the connectors is the next task. Not something I'm looking forward to either. I'm starting to think that maybe it might be a cracked solder joint (or multiple) somewhere. Nonetheless, it's a work in progress. The 440 is a great radio! I have one as my backup rig. Thanks for the advice and take it easy. 73!

The replacement relay board is nice improvement, I hope. I picked up an extremely clean TS-130S last year. It’s been in the original box for the last 35 years I imagine. Hope to try putting it on the air soon.

@@ZedBeeEI got a 120, about 2 years ago. with p/s, speaker, and desk mic. All original docs including purchase receipts too! Very cheap. I played with it before I got my general just to listen and note it has a funky band selector pot. No idea how difficult it will be to get to. Removing the knob got me nowhere (hoping electronic spray would cure it). The digits in the display go wonky as I change bands and I can wiggle and they correct. Sometimes. Could you share the user group info you found? I DO want to play with radio and as it’s only 2nd owner, see what’s left in her now that I can. Thanks for the great vid

I have the same problem. Didn’t notice it until I turned it on one day and noticed 7.025 had been burned into the display. That’s the local aussie east coast unofficial daytime 40m CW call frequency. I can put out a CQ call and get more responses than in do on any of the local Sydney 2m repeaters. One mod I did to my X108G was to repurpose the aux Jack at the back. I took the pre volume control audio, attenuated it with a resistor, and send it to the tip of the jack. That gives me a separate audio line out for digital / CW decoding independent of the volume. I also rerouted the aux audio in to the ring on the aux Jack. I made a Y split so I can now do digital modes without killing my audio as well as monitor my straight key sending with FLDigi One other mod I did was to shorten the screws that held the high power devices to the aluminium plate. They were protruding proud of the plate and keeping it from coupling to the case. They made up for it with heatsink compound. With the shorter screws, it was able to couple better and while the case got hotter faster, it kept the overall working temperature down. What’s your rig like on receive? I find mine a little quiet. It also has a slow QSK cut over from TX to RX when it’s cold. Like a really slow AGC. As it warms up, the problem goes away.

Hi Chris, To be honest, I haven't used my X108G lately but the last time I did the audio was decent. I've seen some guys 3D print out a little fold over deal to place over the speaker to direct more audio to the operator. Mine seems to produce enough volume. I do notice that when I key the mic, it spits out a "blurb" tone for not even a second. Not sure why it is doing that. Just a quick "bleep". Thanks for watching the video. Also, I appreciate the mods you left in your comment. Take care
