THIS WAS SOOOO GOOOD it showed me artists I hadn't yet heard but LOVED and as always laura is beautiful and wonderful. WOW THIS WAS SO GOOD. I still can't get over it :,)
The Oysterband -- marvelous, great band -- teaming up for the second time with one of the world's greatest female vocalists -- June Tabor. These people are great musicians. Their cover of The Pogues' "Lullaby of London" from their previous album is also terrific. I can't stop listening to this new "Son David," track. Quite moving. "Ragged Kingdom" -- an excellent album.
When I first heard this song I found its haunting melodies indescribably beautiful, but I didn't really catch the words. Now that I've found the lyrics and now what the song is about, I can't listen to it without tears streaming down my cheeks. An utterly sublime performance by June and the Oysters, and one of the most moving pieces of music I've ever had the privilege to enjoy.
This is great! Where did it come from? I assume it's just old contemporaneous videos I just missed in the flood of stuff on youtube, Soviet Kitsch is really old.
Hardly ever watch Jools Holland and saw June Taybor & Oysterband. Never heard of this group. Scrolled down and read other comments posted and noted the BBC award bestowed. Sum up: Absolutely and instantly a hooked! Howiesutube
Absolutely love Oysterband, this album is the only thing I'm listening to at the moment, I saw Oysterband and June Tabor at The Arc in Stockton a while back where they played this and a few other songs from Ragged Kingdom and it was just amazing! word's don't cut it, their version of Love will tear us apart is fantastic also :)
'Ragged Kingdom' the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Album of 2012, sung by The Best Band and the Best Folk Singer 2012 (for June Tabor) And Best Traditional Song of 2012 too, for 'Bonny Bunch of Roses' also from this album. If folks out there haven't yet got this fabulous CD, Get it! :0) All 4 Awards are SO richly deserved, guys!
