Soccer does nothing to protect its referees. Any player challenging a card should get it upgraded on the spot: yellow turns to red and red becomes sit-the-next-game-out. Any player gets in the referee's face over any decision gets a red card. Any team that mobs the referee after a decision forfeits the game and gets fined. Any player faking an injury get a yellow card and a six-week acting course.
Typical soccer player behaviour - morally corrupt cheats, the worst kind of role model for the countless kids who idolise them. The FA has no backbone in dealing with this chronic problem, the cheats should be publicly exposed for the frauds they are. Consistent use of the red card would soon make a massive difference. Also, soccer should adopt the 10 metre rule for players with big mouths and small brains - of which there are many. All too often these gobby morons abuse referees and get away with it - march them back 10 metres for every mouth off - if they keep doing it, their team mates will turn against them. Very effective - but again, the FA has no moral fibre when it comes to dealing with key issues like these.
