Slava Ukrain! Thank you for this info. and helping to keep this tradition alive.I was so saddened when Surma closed on 11 East 7th Street. So nice to know there is a place like this to go. Nothing like a brick and mortar shop❤
I just did one of these today with your guidance, and I’m thrilled with the result! I’m a beginner, but my egg doesn’t look beginner. Can’t wait to try more of your designs; really enjoying your videos. Thanks!
I’m waiting on my kit so that I can make these as Christmas gifts for my family. I think I’ll have plenty of time to practice writing with the kiska and make them. Thank you for the content that has encouraged me to take the plunge to make these! It is such a beautiful tradition.
These ornaments are so beautiful and so inspiring!! Thank you so much for the great tutorial, and sharing your artistic talent! I can hardly wait to make some for my family and friends ... but first I will have to master it :)
Dear Rebecca. What a great video! I love the way you encourage the viewer to make brave decisions! It's not a line that went bad and spoiled your whole egg - it's a new design feature for another unique piece of art! I love to do Sorbian Easter Eggs in techniques called wax embossing and wax painting. We'll - I'm getting better but the road is long... Now my question - what dye do you use to paint the eggs? Especially the black dye and the red one in this other video of yours. The golden one looks fantastic, too!
Thank you for your lovely response! The eggs are dyed vs painted and all the dyes I use are specifically made for Pysanky (sometimes called Batik dyes). Feel free to check out my Basics of Pysanky video - where you can see the actual packets and how to use them. Hope this helps!
I made these as gifts for my children's teachers for Winter. Thank you for the wonderful design and instructions! Also, where do you get the dye for the eggs?
Oh, how fun! I'm so glad you've found the video helpful! As for dyes, I usually buy mine at the Ukrainian Museum in New York City or sometimes via Amazon. If you live in Canada or don't mind paying a little extra for shipping, Ukrainian Eggcessories is great!
This is the best most understandable tutorial on making pysanky eggs. Your voice, manor, and informative video, has helped me more than a class that I attended and other video tutorials. Thank you so much for giving me back the enjoyment of this art!
Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for creating this fun design for Christmas!! I made six of them! I am new to pysanky and it was actually your beginner video that gave me the “courage” to try my hand at this wonderful craft. It has been a couple of years now and I am slowly progressing but am determined to master the craft….lol…your videos always simplify the process and make it all that much easier to understand. Thank you so much again…I look forward to future videos! Happy holidays!!!! Kindest regards!!!
I am thrilled to hear that you're enjoying and finding the videos helpful! Don't worry about "mastering", just keep enjoying and creating. Thank you and Happy Holidays!!
Thank you for watching! I don't have a specific link, but you can find basic supply 'kits' on Amazon, which are great: kistka sticks (medium tips are easiest to start with), wax and dyes. You can also find supplies on Etsy or sites like Ukrainian EggCessories. If you happen to live close to NYC, the Ukrainian Museum on East 6th St. is also a wonderful place to shop. Hope this helps!
You can use any eggs you'd like for Pysanky! It's fun to see how the colors take on different shell colors. Just make sure the shells are cleaned and room temperature before you start. Enjoy!
This egg you've made is soo beautiful. The other eggs on your table look wonderful, too. Are all the eggs white, or are there any brown one? Thanks a lot for this great Video!
Rebecca, thank you for a wonderfully instructive and informative video. Enjoyed it very much and will have a go at it this week (before Easter). Thank you.
Wonderful tutorial. I am always looking for another artistic craft to learn and share with my kids and granddaughter. We will be using your techniques to decorate this year. Thank you for the amazing videos and the explanation of the designs meaning.
My dad's cousins wife was Russian Orthodox and made such beautiful Pasanki eggs. Hers were very traditional and so gorgeous. She never offered me one even though she always had a basket full in her kitchen and in her family room. I so wanted one but was scared to ask for one, thinking it wasn't polite to ask. Now, after seeing how these are made, I wish she had taught me! I would have taken to this as a fish to water. She and I were both very crafty. I have no idea why she never thought to show me how? She had 3 sons, no daughters and her granddaughters were half my age or less so I certainly would have been very keen to step in and learn. Heck, I want to pick it up now all these years later after seeing this video.
Thank you so much for you tutorial video. I am going to attempt to make these beautiful eggs and you gave me awesome step by step and I love the meanings of the egg, colors, and significance. I live in Billings, Montana and our family are beekeepers so I have plenty of beeswax! Thanks again. Jeff Larson
That was great, thank you Rebecca! I took a workshop last year but we had to move so quickly it wasn't very relaxing and my egg was not exactly a work of art. Watching you work was very meditative, and I can't wait to try again.
I had a teacher miss Grady, welsh she was a teacher who did this beautiful egg art painting so beautiful!I appreciated Miss GWelsh she was Great teacher!
