Videos on this channel are of my railfanning adventures from around the Roanoke and New River Valley of Virginia. Many of my previous railfanning videos appear over on my other channel - Tombstones and Travels. In the future railfanning videos will be posted here. While I don't have a set schedule right now I hope of post new videos on this channel at least 2 or three times a week to start with.
If you were a subscriber of my TOMBSTONE AND TRAVELS Channel, I hope you will also subscribe here and help this channel grow by subscribing and giving my videos a thumbs up. I have watched a number of other rail fans who share their videos and I have learned from each of them. I am a novice at this so any advice on what the look for when I am out and about would be most helpful. Also I am open to suggestions on how to make better railfanning videos.
Couple other places you might consider nearby. 1). Christiansburg, Va. Depot St. near the Antiques building. Long straightaway. 2). Elliston, Va near where the pipeline is being built. They will frequently stop there and wait for clearance. I caught a series of locomotives destined for Saudia Arabia behind a NS locomotive there.
Thank's for the suggestions. I do sometime film at the Christiansburg Depot I have been back to the pipeline site in Elliston in a good while, still a lot of construction activity in that area. I have caught them Stopped there and have ended parking at the Dollar General and recording them from there. I also visit a couple of location in Glenvar/Dixie Caverns and down at Walton. Thanks again for the suggestions and for support.
@@ElliottWolcottat last count my total was 17. I want to catch the new one "Moving the Weight of the World. But the two times it has passed through to the area it has been late night or early morning.
@@ElliottWolcott Between Walton and Roanoke I can get train coming out of Tennessee and from West Virginia. The two main lines merge at Walton near Radford. On a Good day between Walton and Roanoke, may 15 or 20 during the daylight Hours. Some days a few more or a few less. Mornings until about 11 a.m. and afternoons after about 2 p.m. seem to be the busy times. There seems to be a lull between 11 and 2 most days.
Yes, Amtrak will be coming to Christiansburg eventually.. But like all things, when politicians get involved things slow down. The last I heard was mid to late 2026. I would ride Amtrak more but it just isn't safe to go into Roanoke Any more.
The old Depot was built in 1868 after the original depot was destroyed during the Civil War. It is one of only tow reconstruction era depots remaining in Virginia. The Other on is in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Thanks for watching
I had not Idea, another railfan who was nearby said is was probably Lime. But I am not really sure. Hopefully Some one will let us know in the comment. Thanks for Watching and for your Kind Comment.
I was staying at the Holiday Inn - North Shore on Federal Street across from PNC Baseball Park. I traveled from the Hotel to the Tournament site at PPG Paints arena by Lyft/Uber. Thank you for watching and for commenting.
We've had a string of Heritage Units coming through the New River Valley, In and out of Roanoke the last week or so. Thanks for watching and for commenting from the Volunteer State.
Lots of rain this year has made thing green. This is one of my go to train spot so you can rest assured I will be back when the leaves change. Thanks for watching and for you always positive comments. I appreciate it.
Nice batch of Pan Am boxcars. It's hella hot in Port Saint Lucie Florida today, how about where you are? That trash train would Smell worse if it was baking in Florida.
It was 82 degrees and low humidity here in the New River Valley when I recorded this video. I have a feeling the nice weather won't last. Thank for watching and for your comment.
I think I would enjoy living on a street called railroad street or railroad avenue, especially if my home had a front or back porch view of the train action.Nice video.
This one is a dead end, with only a couple of houses, From talking to a couple of people who live there, they are not fond of the trains. One man told me "if I had know trains made this much noise, I would have never bought the House." And this area is a quiet zone with no train horns. So go figure.
@@SneakinDeacon1 As a teen I lived a block away from Erie Lackawanna mainline in Greenville Pennsylvania. The trains were loud and it allowed horns. But I got used to it and slept through the traffic which came mostly at night. One could soundproof a room or two though.
Yes, This is the Cambria Depot that was built in 1868 to replace the Original Depot that was destroyed During General Stoneman's Raid during the Civil War. This depot is one of only two depots that still are still standing that were built in Virginia during post Civil War Reconstruction. The other is in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Thank you for watching and for Your Comment.
