I am an independent and active musician, composer and performer. This channel displays some of the music and videos I have produced in conjunction with podcasts, visual diaries, interviews, collaborations and music/guitar methodology .
It's not necessary being the best bass player of the world. But it's very important to know what a track needs - and what must be "thrown away" after hours of practicing but has to be kept as a snippet or a spin off. Btw, Damon - it's a inspiring bass tutorial😊
That’s just the way it is, but I always enjoyed doing the music and trying to be creative and offering it up for people to listen to. Thanks for comments though. Always appreciated 👍
Is it just me, or do I detect a subtle Gentle Giant influence in your music? 🤔😉 Great song Damon! Your most recent material is perhaps your strongest yet! Keep it up man.
It's a legitimate question even with irony as Ray was my first guitar/bass teacher and a music mentor to me so I'm fairly sure I picked up some GG traits along the way. He in fact mastered many of my recordings including this one. I miss him very much.
@@DamonShulman, Ray is one of my all-time favorite bassists. He was also one heck of a guitarist (based on the videos I’ve seen featuring him and Gary Green playing acoustic guitars live with GG). Because he passed away on my birthday last year, every subsequent birthday I celebrate will forever be bittersweet. I obviously didn’t know him, but he seemed like a gem of a guy. R.I.P. Ray. Thanks for the response Damon. Keep up the great work.
OMG! I know very well what was going on in your mind 😂😉...As you I don't use ear phones, just ordinary speakers with a small bass subwoofer like a lot of other people, ear phones can betray your ears, but for mixing and placing the instruments in the whole context I use them. Music for ashes - your music has inspired me for this title of maybe an instrumental. A lot of thanks for sharing! 😊
I wonder how much of your song writing comes from Nature and how much from Nurture? Am I right in thinking that REPLIKIN is an album? Another terrific tune!😊
Replikin was a group name created as my sons played on 3 out of 4 of the recordings effectively making us a band briefly. The EP was released with the Feeding Frenzy title on Bandcamp. 👍
What I don't get is how your channel only has 206 subscribers. Your music is incredible. This one conjures up early Canterbury scene, with a smattering of GG. Awesome stuff!😊❤
Please thank you grandfather and Uncle Derek for enriching my musical life. GG was a tremendously important part of my teen years (my friends and I spent many many joyful days listening to first 7 albums). I still listen frequently and have recently purchased the Steven Wilson remixes to hear these great songs on 5.1 surround sound.
As a diehard Gentle Giant fan, I can honestly say that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Well done Damon! I was enthralled to see that there was still a Shulman making music when I’m stumbled upon your music on Bandcamp! Keep up the great work.
Isn’t it Quiet and Cold is a Masterpiece of a song! The Fan video is amazing too. Ray’s pizz violin part really moves it along. Somehow, I get a Harry Nilsson Vibe from this. The Mellophone on Think of me with kindness is fantastic too. Bravo Phil!
Questions.. I do, I do ... I love the first four albums, especially the second album. I love to hear the stories behind the songs .. Great podcast - thank you!
Thanks so much for these! I was hoping to hear more road stories from the Giant days, or mentioning the Black Sabbath show at Hollywood Bowl where Phil had to chide the idiots letting off fireworks 😆
FANTASTIC!!! THE POWER OF THE HUMAN DNA!!!! LIFE GOES ON...... GENTLE GIANT.....ΤΙLL THE END OF TIME!!! SORRY, I'VE JUST DISCOVERED YOUR SO IMPORTANT MUSIC!!
One of my favorite songs of the 21st century. It hits in all the right places. Below, I see that I said it kicks ass 3 years ago. It gets better each time I hear it. Subliminally sufficient, how does your house roll, it's important.
