Nancy Wilson has them. As far as the access port goes get a piece of surgical rubber tubing, make a slice down one side and put it on the edge of the hole. Soft and protective.
These basses have an always seem to have a hump in the upper frets, I be opened a few and they just never set up well. I think the neck is too skinny for truss rod.
Dave. I’ve been watching fun stuff for ages; can I ask ya? Is a modern fender custom shop p bass worth the money? I always knew my next bass was gonna be another precision but, geez Louise the prices are insane!
Perhaps you've heard about the guy looking at himself in the mirror on his 80th birthday. His wife is sitting nearby. He takes a good long look at himself again and says to his wife "I look in this mirror, and all I see is a fat, ugly, demented old man. Honey, I sure could use a compliment right about now." His wife says "Well, I can tell you this, your eyesight is damn near perfect".
I have a one of a kind handmade Acoustic Archtop that I added a very shallow (CB Gitty brand, its cheap, but man its a great sounding $30 humbucker) and I put it about 3" from the bridge, ina Bridge/Mid position... Its one of the best sounding electric guitars plugged into a distorted tube amp i have ever heard. I use D'Darrio Ball end Gypsie Jazz strings on it for the reduced tension and the amazingly great tone ( although they get dead fairly fast as the SIlver wears away)
WOW! Thanks so much for showing this! I've still got my original Yamaha BB1100S with the same beautiful twin set pickups & pre-amp ( which is disconnected ) but the pickups still sound so nice in any config. I lost two of those pegs you were showing at the beginning & had to replace with something else as I couldn't find the original shape. Fretboard is rosewood & the colour of the bass is a beautiful rich red to darker outer edges. I love this bass & have had it for near 40 years now & you can play anything on it, sounds so sweet. Thank you again for posting & greetings & good will to all from Sydney DownUnder 🙏🎸😎👍🦘
I just wanted to say "Thanks", I found your channel yesterday and have watched a few videos since. I'm 68, legally blind with a heart condition. I play guitar, and I wanted to say I find your tutorials interesting along with entertaining. Keep it up! Cheers.
I’m curious if you prefer to work on guitars or basses? We know you prefer instruments with working truss rods and adequate access to the truss rod adjustment. I’ve watched most of your bass videos. Truly learned a lot and it’s helped me do most basic maintenance myself. So thank you for that!
That tuner construction was the Achilles heel of BB basses for about 20 years. They came with a special tool to tighten the collar, always a bad idea. They finally took away the collar in the late 90s and converted them to a hex key adjustment. Stopped making the original BBs soon after. The current BBs come with Schaller BM shaped tuners, way better. Easily upgraded.
Lemmy only used one because of the look and his idols, The Beatles, used one but he outfitted his with thunderbird pickups until the 90s when Ric improved their pickups. After that Lemmy’s tone did sound different. I just sold my Ric because of their weight, that awful bridge and dual truss rod design. Only the bridge pickup sounded good to me. Prefer my Precision bass and my Gibson bicentennial Thunderbird (which visually is way better than the Ric). Lemmy using his Thunderbird is rarely appreciated. Couple clips of him using it.
