Hello! I'm Cory Allen. I make Computer-Aided Design (CAD) content. I've been working in programs like AutoCAD, Inventor, SOLIDWORKS, and Revit for about half of my life. I try to share what I've learned to save you years of YOUR life. I'm currently learning other types of design and may bring that content to my channel soon too. The channel is dedicated to teaching you how to design in a practical application.
A little about me: I'm an educator at a local college, I'm trained in many design disciplines, and I'm currently learning game design and development. Needless to say, I love DESIGN, not just one specific genre of design.
Like the content I make and want to show your support? Consider a contribution to the cause! Money buys me time to make more content! Below is a link to Ko-Fi where you can donate.
Hi man! Lets say that I draw a 1/87 plastic model car, just the body and I wanba draw the glasses like one internal block .5mm thick. Is there an easy way to do it? Thanks
@@wuhegthonjunior8504 no you're all good! So you can definitely create multiple features and have them all in one part to make the glass one entity. How to make each sheet of glass is the only tricky part. I'd imagine probably "sweeps" for each window. What you may find easier is to model each window individually in place then use something like shrinkwrap to combine them after the fact, making one block.
It's hard to say without more information to be honest. Maybe, but probably not lol. Did you have custom appearances on the parts? Or did you apply to face? Perhaps it needs to be one or the other.
Unfortunately I no longer have it :( I just made this for designing our lab on campus. Those files are long gone. I wish I could provide more context on this issue!
Don't know if you're still watching these comments, but when I click insert frame, it says "Content Center query failed. Please check your Content Center configuration to make sure all required libraries are preset or check Content Center connectivity to server."
I do! The video needs a redo because 2024 inventor has a differently laid out frame generator though. Your issue sounds to me like you may be missing the frame generator add in or possibly the content center parts. I'd probably do a full reinstall or Google around to see if there's a way to install content center again
@@CoryAllenOfficial I figured it out! I had the wrong directory for the content library. I found the right one and put it in, and it worked! Thanks for the reply tho!
@@aaronfeenstra1695 I have this problem. And how did you do it? Did you find the right path and place it? What is the right way? Could you please speak? Thanks
@@mariagoncalves4619 yes, i don't remember exactly where the files were, but I did find them. I have my license from my work basically, and was installing it at home. If you don't know whether or not you have the files, I would try to reinstall inventor. I just happened to find the right file path.
AutoCAD 3D is not super friendly. No truer word I have never heard. It so frustrates me compared to SolidWorks which is what I started out with for 3D cad work.
Yeah to me AutoCAD 3D is best reserved for simple models like chairs and small mesh-like models. One day they should just pull the plug on that toolset and double down on inventor
This video was going to be so long that I definitely had to go fast to not drag it out anymore than necessary. I now use different recording software and have key tracking and mouse highlights to make it easier to follow. Hopefully I will get to re record these down the road because I know it's darn near impossible to track some movements in the vid. Sorry about that!
If I had more time in the day I certainly would take requests but I'm so busy all the time :( I've been considering making a patreon for this very thing, to help users get content, but I've not dabbled enough yet! Maybe one day!
man could you please please do a walkthrough video for the chapter 4 floor plan in the 2023 edition book there is only one video and he does not complete it fully

Since I use this content for the college I am unable to give out the files just in case there's some overlap with the students. Sorry about that! I can tell you the assignment is from the Technical Drawing Book from Geisecke

Hey, When I insert new frame, it's also showing sketch of the frame at starting end. There's seems no option to disable the visibility of the sketch. How do hide the sketch?
It's definitely hide-able somewhere. I would imagine it's either hidden under "Frame reference model" or something to that avail. Usually it imports your sketch as "reference skeleton" and puts it under frame reference model.
Many parts in this exercise don't seem to be best practice. e.g. one sketch per feature, and keep sketches simple. Fillets should be added as features, not in the sketch.
Around 15:30 I did an extrusion but that's just the default ribbon with no shortcut used. Check and see if you are on the tab that has the features buttons on it
Hi there, it's been some time since i recorded these. What green dot are you referring to? The yellow dot is the origin point. If yours does not show up when creating a new sketch it may be a setting, however you can always bring the dot in by using project geometry and choosing the origin point! Yellow stuff is all projected geometry FYI :) Thank you! I am from the south haha
@@CoryAllenOfficial Hi Cory, love your accent. Thank you for responding. The yellow origin point sometimes disappears while I'm creating a drawing. Are you familiar with this phenomenon? How do I get the yellow origin dot back? Thanks!!!
Hey i know this is a somewhat old video, but I'm still having a hard time doing some of these absolute units, usually on our hw it would have measurements like 2.00, but when i put them, they're inaccurate for some reason.
Hi Moji, what you explain here is relatively vague haha. It sounds to me like you are either drawing without dimensioning or you are drawing without editing dimensions. There's no real way to ensure accuracy with proper constraining and dimensioning
Thanks for enlightening me to expanding the Dialogue Box while making the Flange for the screw mounts. We were trying to get this portion using the Bend Command.
In the settings for the video slow it down to like 0.75. I'm working to rerecord these with my new software that tracks what keys I hit but slowing it down helps until then 🙂
