[Verse 1] There is a time for love and laughter The days will pass like summer storms The winter wind will follow after But there is love and love is warm Chorus There is a time for us to wander When time is young and so are we The woods are greener over yonder The path is new the world is free [Verse 2] There is a time when leaves are fallin' The woods are gray the paths are old The snow will come when geese are callin' We need a fire against the cold Chorus There is a time for us to wander When time is young and so are we The woods are greener over yonder The path is new the world is free

Boy is this a MOTHER fucking heater of a cover or what? Had a real itch for this song today. Went down the rabbit hole of youtube today and found a Keith Whitley version of this tune, as well as this one. Right away called my dad and sent him both. He always loved this song.

I'm 68 years old I grew up in that era and every so often I played this video, it's absolutely beautiful. The Dillard's where amazing musicians. Maggie Peterson had a beautiful voice and I believe that Andy Griffith was actually touched by that song. Miss that quality in Television

The only negative about the version of “Dooley” is that you don’t get the instrumentals between verses as you do in the recorded version. While I understand the series needing more time for the story to advance, etc. (I’m an actor-writer myself), it’s not the “best” version. I’d encourage anyone who likes the TV version to find the full original version - some really first-rate playing.

In Salem, MO, the hometown of The Dillards, there is a large painted mural on the front of the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center building depicting notable places and people of the area of The Ozarks around Salem. Doug Dillard is featured prominently in that mural, and the image painted there is taken directly from this scene from The Andy Griffith Show -- specifically at about the 42-43 second mark. You can do an image search of this building and see the mural. Long live Rodney and the music and legacy of The Dillards!
